Taster at the Rate Beer Awards Festival. Huge, juicy cherry pie flavor, vanilla. Pretty reddish-orange color with lace. Tart flavor, less fruit than the nose but still great, nice lactic acid.

375mL bottle, pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out tart oakiness and red fruits. Flavour brings out tart cherry pie indeed, with medium tartness and a touch of acidity. Not the most complex beer from Crooked Stave but it's decent.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle, 2014 Batch 2. Aroma has a light acetylaldehyde character to it with a bit of fusel alcohols, but that blows off quickly. Left behind is a strong, tart cherry aroma with hints of berries and plums. Some light toasted bread and toffee malt notes with some light nuttiness as well. Pours a murky brown with a reddish hue and a moderately thick, dark tan head that slowly, but steadily recedes into itself. Medium light lacing and medium small legs. Flavor has a strong tartness with mostly citric, but also some acetic acid. Some medium malt notes of toasted bread, nuts, caramel and toffee with some faint chocolate. Light oak and tannins. Moderately strong tart cherry notes, especially in the finish. Hints of berries and cassis as well. Acidity dries out the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer but I think it’s a bit too sour for the style and for my tastes. The acidity is a touch harsh and hides the malt and fruit. Good cherry notes.
