This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice red complexion with a decent looking one finger-ed white foamy head that ends up dieing into the beer within about thirty seconds and left a decent amount of messy lacing.
The aroma smelled like a good cross between an AIPA and a Red Ale as there was just enough bitter piney hops and still had a nice sweet caramel maltiness combining nicely.
The taste was mainly sweet but did allow some nice bitter hops coming in to balance it for the most part. There was no aftertaste but it did have a dry finish.
On the palate, it sat about a light to medium in body, and showed some light sessionable qualities about it. The carbonation was decent for an IPA or a Red Ale as it was somewhat sharp at times but still wasn’t overbearing.
Overall, this was a good example of a cross between an AIPA and a Red Ale. I’d have this again if available.

It pours a slightly hazy reddish gold with a very large head of foam that surprised me considering it came straight from the fridge.

I get light notes of citrus hops and grain.

Though hoppy, it’s more of a bitter flavour going on than an actual citrus thingy; the malt tastes toasted and grainy. The 63 IBUs don’t seem to working any magic. A pretty dull brew.

Medium bodied so mouthfeel.

The first Saranac that I didn’t find a joy to drink. S*it happens.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear caramel/red color with a medium white head. A sweet nose of toast and caramel. The flavor doesn’t have IPA flavors but does have some citrus and pine, toast, mellow caramel malts. OK.

Aroma: The nose is caramel malts, toast, and a bit of citrus/pine hops
Appearance: It pours a clear mahogany color with a small, frothy beige head
Flavor: The taste is malts balanced by some hop bitterness, better then expected from the nose
Palate: It has a medium (leaning light) body, fizzy carbonation, and a tingly, dryish finish
Overall Impression: It's basically a hoppy amber, which is fine with me, but I don't see too much of a point calling this a Red IPA. Anyway, this was actually better then I thought it would be, so it has that going for it.

12 ounce bottle, winter sampler, Harris Teeter Barracks Charlottesville. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a thin frothy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of caramel malts, citrus and herbal hops. The taste is bitter citrus hops and faint male malts. Medium bodied, not very well balanced.

12oz bottle. Filtered brown-amber, thin soapy head. Relatively clean and straightforward west coast amber, in a good way. If calling a beer a Red IPA is what it takes to make a good hoppy amber, I can accept that. Has some nice hop character, but not much fanciness there, just straightforward bittering for the most part. Overall it’s pretty clean, well balanced, and enjoyable. Some amber vanilla notes, balanced by the soapy citrus hops. Ambers lose my interest fast, this is not really an IPA.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a reddish-orange color with a huge creamy orange-tan head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was sweet caramel, sweet malts and moderate grapefruit. The flavor was tangy and bitter grapefruit, orange and toasted caramel. Long bitter grapefruit, orange and caramel finish. Medium body. Solid.
