Draught pint at Redbones, 1/13/2006. Ruby-auburn highlights throughout a rich soily brown colored body. Clear, though not strikingly so, with a small, dense, beige head that does not seem to recede, though it dosent really create any lacing. Aroma of rich, salty, English toffee, sticky caramel and bits of milk chocolate with a green, floral hop note on the end that is somewhat drying, quite clean. Rich, sweet and lightly earthy/crusty it completely fills the nose, leaving little doubt as to the nature of the malt in the flavor. And sure enough, it is a sticky, fully malty, full bodied toffee, and sticky, caramel malt showing a lengthy boil. They didnt leave much room for wateriness in this one. A rich, soft chocolate and toffee guards against any significant dry breadiness, while just hints of plums and yeasty fruits are noticeable. Green floral hops, fresh and flavorful are noted on the end, as well. Touches of melanoidins here and there with some smooth creamy sweet sugars as the toffe lightens up somewhat. Texture is smooth and nearly creamy from the malts, but could be more fat and chewy were it not for the filtration. Carbonation is low to moderate, no alcohol perceived. Some additional complexity from the malt would not hurt.
