Unique and limited edition, this Belgian style ale is crafted once a year as a special treat for those of you who appreciate flavorful, bottle-conditioned ale with character.

This year’s vintage: a rich, dark and full-bodied ale with a fine and generous coffee-colored, beige foam. It’s ready to enjoy right away and you may also wish to cellar a few bottles. It will evolve interestingly well, developing more complex flavors as the years go by. Keep the bottle upright in storage.

Brewed with a delicate balance of noble hops, roasted malts and spices, this is a remarkably smooth ale with a wonderfully complex finish. It is best served slightly shilled, around 53 degrees Fahrenheit and pairs exceptionally well with grilled salmon steaks, curried lamb, beef or tuna au poivre. Crafted and bottled exclusively for Trader Joe’s

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown / black with a medium beige head. Aroma is very spicy, with cardamom, coriander (almost curried spices), and Belgian yeast. Flavour is extremely spicy, with loads of coriander and cardamom, Belgian yeast, and some mild dark fruits. This one is dominated by the spices though, too much so. Probably my least favourite of the Trader Joe's Vintage ales.

Enjoyed in a snifter with some friends at cellar temp. Pours a dark brown. Nice gusher here. 3 finger head but fades very fast. Scent is lots of sweet dark fruits. Apricot, pineapple, figs and raisins. Taste is sugary sweet. Maybe too much. Sort of a dark oaky taste paired with dominant figs. Medium body and carbonation. Not bad.

750 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with medium persistent head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark ripe fruit, and heavy on cloves/spice. Flavors of nutmeg, cloves, dates, and figs. Could use a bit more body or a bit less spice to allow the malts to come forward. Otherwise quite nice.

750ml bottle thanks to someone! Pours a dark mahogany color with a medium white head. The aroma is big rich malts with some light spices and fruit. A nice mellow flavor with light warmth, some cherry and berries, big malt, light roast, chocolates. Quite good.

C&C 750 mL bottle from Trader Joe’s Glen Allen, VA. Pours a very dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Big yeasty aroma with notes of citrus, spice, stone fruits, caramela and smoke. The taste is bread, spice, cherries, plums, stone fruits, caramel and a faint bit of smoke. Medium-full bodied, spritzy carbonation, very interesting and pretty damn good.

750 ml bottle. Poured a dark ruby-brown color with a huge foam light-tan head. Aroma was dark fruits, sweet malts, touch of spice. Reminds me a bit of a raisin cookie. Flavor is heavy on the dried fruits, with a ton of malt. Creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is quite subdued with this one, even though it’s 9%. Nice!

Pours nearly opaque dark brown under an ample head of tan. Slowly dissipating, leaving lace behind. Rolling the glass produces an even sheet that breaks beautifully. The aroma is earthy roast malts. The flavor is sweetness tempered by a vinous acidity. Complex yet fairly light bodied.

Purchased at Trader Joe’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at a new practice space while recording a song for a new band. Appearance is pitch black with a rich, bubbly off white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, clove, banana, dark fruit, smells nice. Taste is nice, rather smooth, you can tell it packs a punch, not really hoppy at all, can’t get much of a bitterness out of it, not as carbonated as last years version (maybe I got a better bottle???). It’s still pretty great esp at the price point!

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a tan head. Malt and light roast aroma with light chocolate, light dark fruits, and yeast. Malt and caramel flavor with yeast, spice, and light citrus. Medium bodied. Citrus and malt lingers with caramel, yeast, and light spice.

2011 (obviously) 750ml with a best before of 07-06-2016. Always a joy when I see this beer each year for such a reasonable price ($4.99 this year). Pours with a silly sized (massive), creamy, tan head over a near black (very deep brown) body with low clarity. Very pretty belgian lace with good retention as well. Aromas are of Unibroue’s unique house yeast. Clove, cardamom, candied orange peel, brown sugar, brandy, molasses, light roast, leather, chocolate, fig, plum, candied pear. Very floral and inviting overall. Flavors are fruity, estery, chewy, fudge, leather, marmalade, light roast, molasses, curacao orange, clove, mild esters and some alcohol. Brandy. Complex. Light umami as well. Mildly bready malt character. Ginger as it warms. Lively bubbles, nicely dry, a touch of belgian yeast tartness, fruity, complex, long duration. Medium warming. Excellent!
