Five Zero™ is the first in a series of brews based on recipes from the early days of Bear Republic Brewing Company. Brewed using an early IPA recipe (batch 50!), this brew's humble beginnings became the base for several E-ticket brews in our current lineup, Apex and Racer X. Location: Tap at RnH, 4/2/10

Aroma: The nose on this one has some citrus, pine, and some earth
Appearance: It pours into the glass a dark caramel color
Flavor: The taste is pretty balanced, medium sweet, medium bitter
Palate: A medium bodied brew with a nice crisp mouthfeel
Overall Impression: A good, though a bit on the odd side, Double IPA. This beer is very nice, but I didn't feel as though it stacked up to the 11 or anywhere near the Racer X, which was spectacular. Still very good though.

Draft. Rich amber beer with a cream colored head. Grapefruit aroma. Grapefruit, pine, and dark malt flavor. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit, pine, and darker malts linger. A bit more darker malts and drier than Racer 5.

Draft, The Bistro, DIPA Festival. Nice, dry Double IPA. It had an interesting floral bitterness in the finish that was the high point here for me. Otherwise, there was bright orange hop note and very little malt flavor. It drank above its weight range and easily held up to many bigger beers that day. The lack of malt sweetness and the floral hop flavor pushed this into the upper half of my ratings for the day. The tap list has it at 80 IBUs.
