Named after one of our most seasoned employees, this tripel is our take on the traditional Belgian strong pale ale. We brewed this beer with coriander and a classic Belgian yeast strain giving it a spicy, fruity ester note that is followed by a warming, yet dry finish from the alcohol and light malt body.

Golden colour with loose, thin head. The aroma is peppery, with light floral and phenol and maybe a herbal accent. Dryish, with some herbal character. Decent - peppery and sweetish but nonetheless a balanced interpretation.

Tap at Kinsale. Pours clear gold into an imperial pint. Mild bubblegum and plastic aromas. Viscous with upfront sweet candi turning sour and hot in the lasting banana finish.

On tap at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 12/22/2009 as Sierra Nevada Triple. Very clear golden body with a very thin white head. Sweet sugary aroma with a bit of floral hops. Very sweet sugary flavor, with some light fruit and floral hops. Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Fairly one-dimensional overall.

Draught at Ginger Man, NYC
Hazy deep blond color. The aroma is a bit fruity and lightly soapy. Sweetish malt flavor, light alcohol feeling. Simple.

@Mr Pickwicks VT-on tap-pours a retaining thin white head and yellow/gold color. Aroma is mild, dry, yeasty, sweet grain-honey. Taste is dry, yeasty, sweet grain-honey/rock candy, secondary spice hops. Good effervescence. Well done.

Draft at Blind Tiger, NYC. Deep yellow to gold body. Frothy white head, mostly diminishing. Aroma of apple, orange, pear, honey with a hint of barnyard. Some notes of grain and spice. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. Thin to medium body with moderate carbonation and a watery texture. Sierra Nevadaβs marketing says, "This is a very limited draft production offering as we do not consider ourselves a Belgian Style Brewery." After having this beer, I canβt disagree. Way too sweet, not near dry enough, lacking aromas and flavors of spice, particularly clove.

Tap at Trinity Brewpub in CO Springs - crystal clear straw color - fizzy, lasting head - very sweet in the nose and flavor, with a lot of honey, overripe apples - a tiny bit of belgian yeast phenols and esters - some crisp, american-style hoppiness tries to dry things out, but it remains sticky sweet - another disappointing american-made tripel.

Sampled on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA, labeled "Sierra Nevada Belgian Trippel." Pours a clear pale amber color with a thin creamy head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, spice, bread, banana and plum. Taste is caramel, ripe and unripe banana, citrus, melon and faint spices and leafy hops. Smooth with a medium body.

Location: Draft at Swift Hibernian Lounge, 9/14/09, under the alias "Sierra Nevada Abbey Tripel"
Aroma: All the standards are there, candi sugar, yeast, banana, spice, bubble gum, sweet fruits
Appearance: Golden color, with a bright white, but thin head
Flavor: Similar to the nose, a nice semi-sweet malty tripel flavor, lots of yeast and fruit, but not overly sweet to the point of ruining the beer
Palate: Light-medium body with a nice fizzy mouthfeel, drinks really nicely, no burn at all for an 8.5% beer
Overall Impression: I was sitting at the bar watching them get this one ready and figured I might as well try it. Until I saw the tap handle I didn't realize Sierra Nevada made a tripel. I actually found this beer to be quite refreshing and flavorful. A nice beer, that stays pretty true to its style. My memory of this beer was how nicely it drank.
