Ciuc comes from Miercurea Ciuc, the "freezing pole" of Romania. Here people use to drink in winter time, when the weather is really cold, a stronger beer, brewed after a traditional recipe. From this region, we have chosen this traditional recipe in order to bring on the shelf a winter limited edition version of Ciuc.

A golden lager with a thin creamy off white head. Herbal malt aroma, a bit chalky. In mouth, an oily corn adjunct malt, rather astringent, god awful brew. Tasted Dec. 19 2009.

A "téli csíki". Finom!

Can (BB 11/2008)
I was suprised to find this beer from the shady alley minimarket in Central Bucharest, just few blocks away the place where Nicolae Ceauşescu gave his infamous last speech. It was now mid-July, +32C outside and this was the last can of Ciuc Winter they had in the fridge. Beer has light amber color, big foamy white head. Industrial apple-fruity and alcoholic nose with metallic notes. Mouthfeel is very thin, palate is watery. A bit fruity, then with alcoholic warming. Not disturbing malt likka, it is just not very intereresting. Malt profile is really thin.

Bottled - PET. Deep golden, small head. Lightly apply nose with some bread and alcohol. Sweet and fruity, medium bodied, lightly syrupy. Not the most exciting beer, but fairly well balanced, and without much off-flavours.
