First brewed in London in 1722 by a man named Harwood. It was intended for porters and heavy labourers to help provide them with the strength needed to accomplish their tasks. This beer uses chocolate malt and black malt to give it a rich flavor of coffee and dark chocolate. Most of the year this beer is also poured on our nitrogen faucet to make the dispensed beer smoother and headier.

On tap. Pours a clear dark red-brown with a small, long lasting, creamy, tan head that laces nicely. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, dark fruit and coffee. Sweet flavour that matches aroma with a mildly bitter finish. Medium body with a smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Nice.

Draught at the brewpub. Very black, small head. Distinct aroma of coffee and tar. Mid sweet with clean mouthfeel and medium body. Dense and compact with lots of espresso and resiny bitterness. A rock solid porter.
