This rich dark ale comes to Northwest beer connoisseurs with roots of German origin. Generous portions of Crystal, Munich, and Chocolate malt combine to create an Ale of extraordinary complexity and smoothness. Modestly hopped utilizing Yakima Valley Liberty hops, the Dunkel finishes slightly sweet with Carmel and Chocolate flavors.

Tap at Maxs. Red-black-brown. Thin beige head, steady. Semi sweet chocolate tones, very mild, clean, fresh. A touch of underlying raisin fruity sourness, maybe not infected but a touch odd for the style..in a good way. Still a quality example of a generally cheaply made style.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear mahogany colour, no head. Cardboardy nose. Fairly light bodied with clean, hard mouthfeel. Edgy and cardboardy with low bitterness. Very harsh and messy.

Dark brown colour. Rich, complex aroma with American-style big chocolate malt and a slight nuttiness. Starts chocolatey and rich, but gets thinner and more metallic (but nothing too dramatic). This reverts again into a clean finish with a moderately rooty bitter chocolate note. The overt American-ness of this dunkel may have Europeans and diehard lager fans cringe, but it’s a tasty brew.
