This wine-beer love child is a blend of 40% full malolactic riesling and 60% mixed fermentation wild ale, barrel aged on orange wine skins from Pearl Morissette’s Cuvée Blu. Drinks like a bright luscious Friuli Spumante poured over a freshly scooped melon ball.

Bottled, thanks Ottawa friends. Hazy pale golden, no head. Mildly funky cider aroma. Tart with medium body and crisp, rounded mouthfeel, underlying sweetness. Apple must, minerals notes of marzipan. Interesting.

Bottle: Poured a clear light yellow color ale with a large foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some nice vinous notes is quite refreshing. Taste is also a nice mix of refreshing tart notes, nice vinous notes with some oak and Brett notes also apparent. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nice refreshing beer with good level of complexity.

(Bottle sample @ Witchstock 2018, Toronto, Sep 29/18) Pours lightly hazed pale straw gold with a white head. Notes of floral tropical fruit (lychee/passionfruit axis), orange peels, lime, melon, crisp white wine, wet wood, musty cellar, lightly sweet honey, dry and crisp with a little orange wine tannin and zesty acidity. Light to medium bodied with sparkling wine effervescence. This is totally beautiful stuff, a superb melding of Riesling and beer - what a hybrid should be. Wish I could have got a bottle.
