Our interpretation of a Belgian style quad, Four Ale is reddish brown in color and has flavors of raisin, candied fruit, and plum. We brew this beer with four malts (Caramel, Munich, Carapils, and 2-row), four sugars (Cane Sugar, Date Sugar, Belgian Dark Rock Candi, and Molasses), four hop varieties (Perle, Hallertau, Tettnang and Czech Saaz) and undergoes four fermentations, using four different yeast strains. The result of this elaborate brewing process is a complexity of flavor, aroma and mouth feel we believe is truly worth savoring.

The smell has the raisin, Belgian yeast, light sugars and light banana all combined very nicely. The appearance has a small white head that lasts about a minute. The taste is extremely sweet, ranging close to a malt bomb. The palate is heavy and a bit sharp here and there. This is not very drinkable and am feeling my palate is wrecked after this bad boy. Overall, I’m still fairly new to this style, but liked it for me.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, brandy, red wine and candied sugar - omnipotent on the nose. Flavour of brandied fruits, candied sugar, red wine, slight booze but not overpowering. Full-bodied and smooth, incorporating the ABV exceedingly well. Delicious.

750 ml bottle into tulip, batch 18(2008 bottling I think). Pours very hazy dark red color with a small fairly dense khaki head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap. Some spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of huge raisin, prune, banana, caramel, molasses, candi sugar, and yeast spices. Nice aromas with big fruitiness. Taste of big raisin, prune, caramel, toffee, toasted malt, molasses, candi sugar, biscuit, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of molasses, toffee, dark fruit, and yeast spices on the finish for a while. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is extremely well hidden for 10%, with hardly any warming after the finish present. Very smooth and drinkable, but it is still a sipper. Overall this is an outstanding Belgian Quad with tons of great flavor and balance. I would definitely have this again.

Bottle @ home with Jetson. Batch 24. Pretty clear, copper orange appearance with a fluffy, tan head. Carbonated, spicy Belgian yeasty, toasty caramel malty, mild brown sugar aroma. Fairly rich candy sugar, brown sugar, toasty caramel malty, mild toffee, slightly fruity flavor. Really more like a Belgian Strong Ale. Easy to drink but not what I would usually consider a Quadrupel.

750 bottle, tasted blind. Medium amber, light lace. Caramel and fruit nose. Rather bland. A bit of hop and phenols. Fruity, hoppy, some orange and raisin. Rather light, smooth. Perfectly fine, though kind of boring.

Bottled. Hazy ambery brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is raisins, wood, resins, mild yeast and also being rather strong on the malty times. Flavour is rather siilar along with alcohol and some syrupy notes. Gets more balanced and bodied once it warms up a bit.

More of an abbot than a quad, which is good. Dark copper color. Lots of yeast in the aroma and flaavor. Sweet malt with spices. Some cardamom. Sweet finish. Not a huge hop character in this one.

Thanks to Travlr: Poured a copper color with a jello bubble thin head. Aroma is fermented fruit and malt. Taste is very malty with a mix of fruit and nice hops as well.

Sampled at Allagash after the tour. Hazy to unclear amber with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel, dark overripe fruits, yeast and a few signs of alcohol. Complex flavor of roasted malt, overripe plums, figs, dates, caramel, yeast and hops. Finished sweet and full. Towards the end I had warming alcohol to finish the experience. Very good!
