Fles thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een troebel licht geel bier met een volle schuimkraag. Het heeft een zachte hopgeur. De smaak is zacht, hoppig met hints van citrus en tonen sinaasappel.

'White' (so actually 'wheat') IPA from this Dutch 'nomad' brewer operating from Finland, bottle from an Albert Heijn supermarket in Zeeland (southern Netherlands) - quite surprised to see some of his beers pop up there, actually. Very thick and frothy, egg-white, tightly 'papery' lacing, very dense and foamy head over a cloudy straw blonde beer with olive greenish hue and tiny dots of dead yeast floating around everywhere - not a good sign for an IPA, but anyway, this comes from a supermarket so what did I expect... Aroma of lime peel, freshly cut giant hogweed stems, bath foam and hand soap, spoiled cucumber, unripe pineapple flesh, gremolata, powder sugar, sourdough, green apple, banana and even a bit of bubblegum, sweetclover, withering lilies, hints of baker's yeast, chalk, yellow plum, minerals. Very fizzy onset, sharply overcarbonated with a very minerally, initially numbing effect as well as souring a bit, accentuating the cucumber-, unripe gooseberry- and green apple-like sourishness that comes through in the onset with a high amount of somewhat obnoxious acetaldehyde, paired with only a very subdued banana-ish sweetishness; mouthfeel is slick and supple but coarsened by this overcarbonation. Sourish and explicitly (too) soapy 'wheatiness' indeed, sourdough-like, with grainy pale malt edges; meanwhile these sourish fruity hints continue. Gains more and more hop bitterness towards the end (though in the specific context of IPA, "strong hopped" seems stretching things a bit too much); a very herbal, bitter wormwood-like hop bitterness is certainly there and pleasantly lingers, but it remains altogether mild for an internationally intended IPA. It does not miss its drying finish effect though, a bit peppery, and releases green bitter weed and bitter flower aromas retronasally, with an elegantly (lime- or lemon-)zesty touch to it; quite a lot of spicy (cloves) phenols appear as well, alas, interfering too much with the hoppy aromatics. Breadiness from the yeast lingers after swallowing. Quenching and properly bittering, but too high in acetaldehyde for me and too low in malt 'rotundity', with distracting yeast effects that put this beer firmly in the 'Belgian IPA' department. I had better beers from Flying Dutchman. And what's with those ridiculously long names every time?
