Bottle from the brewery. Pours a cloudy red with a medium white head. Tart cherries right off the bat with some juicy red wine and red grape notes. Light spice, white pepper, and a bit metallic. Mouth feel is bright, and lively. Finish is quite a bit more bitter than expected, quite tart also. Big spicy notes, dank red wine, and very vinous. The barrel add earthiness to the spiciness. This is complex and all over the place, doesn't really know what it's trying to be.

(375ml 2019 bottle c/o Herbalist, thanks!) Pours nearly clear deep amber with a small but stable white head and lots of lace. Aroma of red wine, red berries, baked apple and pear, stewed fig, slightly peppery spicebox, notes of oxidized fortified wine for sure, sweet and fruity with clear oak presence and light funk. Flavour is much drier and more tart than the nose would suggest, lactic acidity for the most part, heavy oak structure, more white wine-like up front with white pepper phenolics, but becoming richer, sweeter and more reminiscent of the nose on the finish with notes of nutty fortified wine, baked apple, dark fruit, clove and caramelized sugars into the aftertaste. Light to medium body for ABV, with very full effervescence. Interesting, different than a typical red wine ale with the fortified wine barrel definitely dominating over the grape must. Odd, but cool.

Tasting at Matt's, bottle
Cloudy dull pink-golden colour. Nice fruity character, red wine, with little residual sweetness, and the sourness, although sharp, it's not offensively exxcessive.
Good.

375mL bottle, pours a cloudy, rusted amber with a small white head. Aroma is full of strong red wine barrels, grape must, and oak. Flavour is very oaky, dry and woody, with lots of oak barrels, grape must, vinous notes, and a little funk. The red wine character intensity is quite high, with lots of woody and red wine must on the finish. Good stuff.

375ml at Matt's amenity room. Appearance: deep mukry straw with a white head. Aroma: grapes with some wild and barrel character. Taste: dry, unripe grapes, a bit of wild character and barrel. Overall: not bad, but tastes weird.

Pale purple, thin head. On the nose, it has a pretty nice fruitiness - cab franc mostly I would say. Has a little bit of spiciness, mild tartness, lots of barrel, vinous notes. Balanced and complex.
