Our favorite porter with just a touch of the tropics. This Coconut Victory at Sea takes our popular Imperial Porter to another place. We added sweet roasted coconut to our robust porter brewed with Caffe Calabria coffee and vanilla, the perfect complement to this beer’s subtle roasty intensity. A favorite at our annual Victory at Sea Day, but it’s worth enjoying anytime you need to be transported.

Bottle shared at THT July. Black with dark beige head. Lots of coconut, mango, some vanilla, dark chocolate, light coffee. Like all kinds of tropical stuff in a coffee. Medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied. Very nice!

22oz Bottle Black, nice coacoa head. Big coconut aroma and lots of strong sharp dark roast. Flavors are similar but the rostiness takes over a bit. Still a lot of coconut. Fairly hot and fresh bitterness. This would soften nicely over several months I imagine.

Never good when both people trying a beer for the first time refer to it as having a noticeable "sunscreen" flavor. Lots of coconut flavor, suspiciously so, even. Not that I’m doubting this brew has real coconut added, but it damn sure tastes like there’s some additional flavoring by less scrupulous means, giving it a rich, sweet, overbearing coconut character that tastes far too noticeable to be simply the result of including the real McCoy. Normal Victory at Sea notes are nice--the strong java, the vanilla padding, the bittersweet chocolate notes meshing with a dry, bitter finish--but the coconut’s too much, too on-the-nose for comfort. Not for me.

Bottle from QClub at home on bday. Pitch black pour, puffy tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is strong toasted coconut and roasted coffee with sweet vanilla. Taste follows - lots of roasted coffee and coconut with some chocolate, very sweet. Palate is rich. Some boozy burn. Good not great.

Bottle: Rubied-black with a creamy tan head. Coconut, minty chocolate aroma. Roasty coconut, chocolate malt, a bit of coffee flavour. Sweet, initially, then a long, growing, ash/husk/herbal bitter. Fantastic aroma, but the taste is a let-down......good, but not nearly as good as the nose would leave you to believe.
