Bottle shared by Yespr. Slightly unclear dark amber color, average sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, a bit sweet, caramel and some herbs or spices in the background. Meh.

[330 ml. bottle][Purchased @ the brewery][BBF 07/18] Dark clear amber, barely any head. Nose is thin syrupy cough syrup, leaves, stale old candy, soap, thick bay leaf, burned cane sugar, soapy dark fruit esters. Taste is herbal, bitter spaces, cloves, bay leaf, dash of cough syrup, cardamom, soapy overripe dark BE fruits, finish is bitter medicinal kitchen spices. Barley any carbonation which makes the body feel a bit thin despite the cough syrup feel. Pretty decent kitchen spices classical Belgian Dark Ale. This is very Belgian with no real Barley Wine characteristics. I can imagine this sharing many characteristics with the base beer of Leviathan, them never having released the base of that beer, I have never tried it. It is funny that despite this breweries slogan "Leave the abbey, join the playground". This beer would make perfect sense if it were marketed as an abbey ale, it tastes like a subpar but still good take on the likes of Rochefort 8 or Chimay Blauw.
