Tap at Beer Hunters. Opaque black color, small brownish head, lace. Sweet, roasted aroma with some hops. Full-bodied. Sweet, sticky, hoppy, roasted. Sweetness covers ABV nicely, but too sugary and simple. Needs lots of ageing.

37,5 cl bottle @ Leppävaara
Aroma has fruity hops, gooseberry bush and mild licorice tones. Flavour has licorice, fruity hops and malty tones. Alcohol is present but does not disturb.nEasy to drink, especially with this ABV – but then again this has nothing special to give either. Not sure if I’d recognize this as a black IPA.

375ml bottle from Boxbeers. Pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, grassy hops, herbal notes, coffee, licorice and leather. Taste is earthy, leathery and slightly roasty with some herbal notes, grassy hops, coffee and syrup. Finish is heavy, earthy and roasty with some licorice, herbal notes, grass and coffee. Heavy and earthy, quite unbalanced.

Bottle from Brewcraft at home on S’s birthday. Pitch black pour with some brown at the edges and a very fine thin light tan head. Aroma is deep chocolate with candy fruit and pine. No booze despite 14%. Taste is big and bitter booze at first - resin and sweet fruit. Then very sweet burnt sugar with pronounced boozy warmth throughout. Not as good as hoped but it is interesting and not off putting as some huge beers can be. To Øl’s Black Malts Body Salts is much better but this is worth a try.

dark brown colour, moderate sized dense brown head; aroma of milk chocolate, coffee, soy sauce, tangerine notes, burnt sugar, and some herbs; taste of coffee, chocolate, syrupy sweetness, tangerine, mushroom, herbal notes and soy sauce; dominated by syrupy sweetness rather than either hoppy, or roasted bittery notes; not a usual black ipa...and I’m not sure that I would categorize it as a black IPA at all, but, anyway, it’s an extraordinary beer
