On tap at the Newcastle pub pours a dark brown with some cloudy, ringing white head. Nose has some orange and tangerine, toast and malt, a little licorice, some dark brown sugar, light pine. Flavor has brown sugar, pumpernickel bread, some soap, some pine, a little orange soda. Finishes dry and a touch bitter. Easy drinker, even at 7.2%.

Can from Appellation Wines. Clean ruby/brown body with a thick beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, blackcurrant and orange. Flavour of blueberries, dark malt and grapefruit. Medium body with a smooth, oily texture. Light fizz. A hoppy Black IPA - lovely.

Can. Black colour with a mediumsized foamy brown head, that leaves lace. Aroma is strongly fruity and floral through heavy hopping and also some liquorice, mild toasted and ashy notes. Flavour is roasted malts, some slight ripe fruits, zest, liquorice and some fruity and floral notes. Something between a black IPA and a heavily hopped stout. Yet surprisingly tasty.

Can. Appearance- very dark brown, light brown tinges when held up to the light, a two-finger thick beige head which lasts. Aroma- grapefruit, hops, milk chocolate, dark malts, hint of coffee, hops dominate. Taste- roasty dark malts, coffee, milk chocolate, blackcurrant, hint of pineapple and orange peel, bitter hops, dry bitter finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and a bit creamy, but with some carbonation. Tasty.

Black beer, thick head. Tangy, citrus aroma. Flavour is more balanced. Malt up front, some mellow hop, bitter coffee and it’s afterwards that grassy, grapefruity citrus starts to come through. Crisp and refreshing. Lovely.

Tap at the Birmingham Beer Bash 2016. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is light grassy hop, some yeast, light roast. The flavour is moderate bitter with a big woody medicinal hop bitter, light chocolate and dry coffee palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A real hop bomb.

330ml can from Brewdog Birmingham. Pours dark, tan head. Aroma is pine hop, cherry wood, roast, cocoa. Taste is mellow roast, dark fruits, assorted exotic moments, pine with mild bitterness. Good flavoursome Black IPA.

Can from Cotteridge Wines; dark opaque brown pour with a big frothy light tan head, aroma has light pine a hint of rubber, chocolate, taste has dark roast, chocolate, backed up with some resinous pine, solid CDA.
