Can. Brewdog, Sheffield. Clear, dark, ruby red. Dense, messy, lasting, light tan head. Nose has woody, charred pineapple and grapefruit. Some squeezed orange. Burnt rubber malts. Trace of liquorice. Taste is big, gritty, charred bitter. Loads of pith and oily zest. Fairly full body. Soft, foamy mouthfeel. More of the big, oily, charred bitterness on the finish. Very tasty, but a little one dimensional, maybe.

Brewdog Shoreditch. Keg. Almost opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy and very slightly soft. Decent fine carbonation. Soft dark malts, a little dark malt cream. Trace of coffee and very mild dark chocolate. Mild hop spice. Red berries. Tropical fruits. Pine. Finishes smooth and leaves a mild bitter linger. A sumptuous and fruity black IPA. Good Doggie!

Keg at BDSB - London. Pours black-brown with a dense, lasting creamy khaki head. Nice roasted malt aroma with accents of orange rind, grapefruit, pine. Medium sweet flavor with good bittersweet cocoa, a bitter mix of rindy citrus and burnt pine, light ash, more grapefruit, faint mango. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation and velvety texture. Assertive ashy roast and butter torched pine to finish, with further baking cocoa, mellow espresso, orange rind, lightly pity grapefruit, hints of tropical fruits. Excellent CDA overall.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - pine and grapefruit. Taste - molasses, black jacks, roast and liquorice. Pine and bitter citrus backdrop. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - it doesn’t really pull together all the expected elements of the style for me. However, it is very balanced.

On tap at BrewDog Norwich. Black colour lasting tan head. Quite nice chocolate flavour. But its a black ipa I still don’t understand. Either do a stout or an ipa. Chocolate lime.

330ml can from Brewdog online store. Black-brown colour, beige foamy head leaving lacing and aroma of dark malt, floral hop, citrus & pine. Taste is roasted malt, with dark chocolate & coffee notes, tangy citrus & pine, grapefruit bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry lingering tangy bitter finish. Very drinkable BIPA.

Keg at BD Bush, 09/06/16. Black with a decent khaki cap. Nose is pine resin, liquorice, black pepper, earthy hops, red berry. Taste comprises blackcurrant liquorice, earthy roast, charr, light spice, black pepper, pine needle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, earthy hop bitterness in a drying close. Solid CDA.

Can from BrewDog Soho. It pours black with rugged tan head. The aroma is fresh, big pine action, roasted malt, chocolate, bit of grapefruit and a touch of orange sherbet in the background. The taste is big bitter bite upfront, burnt pine, resin, dark chocolate, tobacco, toasted grass. earth, hint of citrus and rich coffee with a lingering bitter - dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Works very well and keeps me coming back for more. Great stuff.
