A tartuffe (tar-TOOF) is a hypocrite who feigns religious virtue. Heretic’s Tartuffe is our take on a Berliner Weisse-style ale. Our head brewer has a thing for this beer style. He loves the tart, refreshing character that comes from using lots of wheat malt and a multi-day sour mash. Try it by itself or mit schuss, the traditional German addition of raspberry or woodruff syrup. Either way, enjoying life is a true virtue.

Golden colour with no head. Looks like morning piss. Aroma and flavour are quite perfumed and floral. Otherwise typical thin bodied and sour Berliner Weisse.

(Draught at Beer Temple, Amsterdam, 21 Feb 2018) Pale golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, slightly sourish nose with bread, grain and a lactic acidity. Fruity, slightly tart taste with notes of bread, peaches, green grapes, grain and a mild tartness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and refreshing, with a fresh lactic acidity. Quite nice.

Tap at Changwon Express 2, Bangkok. Poured a hazy straw colour with a thin white head. The aroma is light yeast, citrus fruits. The flavour is light sour with a fresh, crisp, light, watery cucumber, light tart fruit palate. Light bodied with average carbonation.

On tap at Brody’s. Light pale golden pour, clear, with a thin white head. Notes of grains, pilsner malt, light lactic tartness, lemon zest. Clean and refreshing, though leaning too much towards a pilsener to my liking. --- Beer merged from original tick of Tartuffe on 12 Aug 2017 at 16:59 - Score: 7

On Tap at BitterCreek Clear bright light yellow. Light faint wheat malt flavors, modest tartness. Tastes like a watered down Berliner. Just OK

Tap @ Kromme Haring, 10 cl sample. Slight hazy yellow color, short frothy head. Aroma of cardboard, grainy wheat, sewer funk, old milk. Slight lactic in taste, dry. Boring. The cardboard box of old milk with a two days old muesli dish is not what I like about berliner weisses. Maybe it’s supposed to be that way, but I prefer sweet and sourness. Did not like this.
