Apparently a failed batch of Ara Bier - one can wonder if this would have ever hit the market before there was a young international craft beer audience like there is today. Bottle shared at Struise shop in Bruges. Lacing, off-white, stable head, light hazy golden blonde robe with peachy hue. The aroma is among the most unusual and unexpected I ever encountered: dominated by utterly weird lavender soap and lemon-flavored detergent impressions, hiding less ’shocking’ hints of green apple, unripe plum, roses, chlorine, white bread, banana. Sweet and sour onset, green banana, pineapple, green plum, medium carbo, pale grainy malt sweet body with that strong lavender and lime soapiness returning retronasally and again dominating, some banana liqueur but rotting hay as well, herbal hop touch providing late bitterness, warming alcohol - and again, after swallowing, the only thing that remains is that intrusive soap character. I cannot understand what went wrong here, did they try to wash away the infection with soap and detergent? Incomprehensible product as far as I’m concerned, and far from pleasant. I can, however, easily see how this divides opinions as much as it apparently does.

330mL bottle, pours a clear golden with a medium white head. Aroma brings out soapy floral notes, sort of like detergent, and wild yeast. Flavour is quite wild and soapy, with wild yeast and floral detergent notes. Seems like a mistake, with a weird soapy quality. Strange stuff.

I stole this beer but had no idea this was a new beer. Surprisingly, it’s a new beer and a sour. However, this is obviously a mistake beer. It’s basically cleaning detergent flavor. Lemony, light, it’s not horrid but really bad.

12 oz. bottle from Berkeley Bowl. After purchasing this, I found out that it was basically a bad batch of Arabier that went sour...not exactly what I wanted to hear, but I’ll try and give it a fair shot. It pours a deep orange color with a small but lasting white head. The aroma is very potent with lemon based cleaning fluid, sage and other herbal notes. Some citric acid underneath that recalls orange and lemon. Surprisingly no acetic acid or ethyl acetate on the nose. The flavor is very potent with cleaning fluid. Bitter herbs and chemicals in the finish. Not extremely sour or acetic, but there is a touch of acetone to go along with the unpleasant chemicals. It wouldn’t be too bad if the chemical bitterness wasn’t so strong. Almost a drain pour.

330 ml. bottle sampled @ Yarric’s house warming. Thank you! This one is a failed batch of Arabier that was going to be dumped but that some Americans got to try, raved about & now it is meant for export. That is the gist of it, it isn’t the first time that a batch that heavily deviated got released as a new one-off beer & it won’t be the last time. While finances are inherently involved beers like that can be good & interesting but just too different to sell as they were originally intended. Most people disliked this one & get that but this isn’t bad in my opinion but it is more like very unusual. I tried it both with & without the sediment and I preferred it very strongly without. Sediment muted too much the flavors, eliminated interesting details. Hazy golden, creamy off-white. Nose is flowers, lemon, interesting & good dishwashing liquid, artificial lime, chamomile, pepper, hop,… Taste is chamomile, leaves, cardamom, green apple, pear, artificial lime, sugar, soap, very strangely floral, zest,… Easy to drink, cleaning product citrus in a good way. I liked but others didn’t, not the usual sour & spoiled you would expect for sure. Very unique, interesting & refreshing. I liked it even whilst knowing what it is & knowing that I should know better.
