All hail His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Norton I, of The United States and Protector of Mexico! A beloved 19th century San Francisco denizen, Emperor Norton was best known for issuing his own currency, calling for the overthrow of the Federal Government, and for prophesying a future bridge connecting San Francisco and Oakland.

Emperor Norton is an eccentric ale brewed in his honor, blending a classic Belgian-style tripel with California-grown summer apricots and dry-hopped generously with Citra and Hallertau Blanc hops. Enjoy in the company of unconventional friends!

Bottle, 650 ml from Beergium. Shared with rest at the grand tasting 11/2016. Pours cloudy yellow with medium creamy white head. Nice fruity aroma, apricots all over, moderate hoppiness, some yeast, malty. Light to moderate sweetness, some bitterness in finish. Creamy texture. Medium bodied.

Treated as a Belgian pale ale, this was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a brisk golden yellow color with a carbonation rising at a moderate pace to fill a one finger white foamy head that died off ever so slowly to fill small valleys here and there. Ringed messy lacing ran here and there.
The aroma leaned towards the IPA/DIPA side of the wheelhouse with some white pepper and a sweet lemon pulp and then some light apricots. Grassy sweet hops tickle some white grapes with a fresh oily scent to it. Light pine at the end.
The flavor blends white grapes, the apricots and lemon pulp to the grassy sweet hops nicely. Pine is starting to becomes slightly stronger. Hop oils are becoming stronger too. Strong hop oily aftertaste with a dry white grape finish, but not vinous.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a medium carbonation, acceptable. Mild dryness seems inviting to the bitter hoppy portion over my tongue. Feels pretty good.
Overall, nice Belgian pale ale, but this isn’t a tripel and oddly enough Almanac doesn’t even say that on their bottle, what the what, hmmmmm.....

Pour is a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is a ton of orange juice with a bit of grape must. Flavor is a nice citrus fruit with a lot of bitterness. Maybe a bit of banana and clove come out as well. This is a decent fruit flavorful tripel I just wish more of the triple aspects showed up to counter the fruitiness.

22oz bomber pours with a crystal clear pure gold body that supports a thin off white head of foam. The aroma offers up cloves and yeasty spiciness along with malty citrus, pineapple and honeydew like hoppiness. The taste is similar as I get spicy clove and sweetened coriander to start and then smooth sweetened hoppy notes of tangerine, pineapple and some soft cantaloupe and honeydew notes fill in around the edges. This only attains a sliver or two of hop bitterness but the spiciness is there to create some balance against the various sweet malt notes and the juicy hoppiness. Pretty nice and a well crafted offering where the Belgian aspect of the beer is even with the hoppiness.

Hazy orange. String fruit and tropical citrus notes. A bit of pepper. Tangerine. Some yeast. Strong, sweet booze. Decent but the hard liquor is a bit overpowering.

26.02.2016, 0,65l bottle @ home:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head, hazy. Aroma is slightly neutral, yeast, hay, minerals, leafs, grain, grass, alcohol. Taste is slightly dry yeasty, hay, yeast, wet leafs, wet hops, grain, alcohol, minerals, paper, citrus peel. Medium bitterness, slightly harsh boozy mouthfeel. Not really my cup of tea.
