This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a hazy golden color with a one finger white foamy head that quickly concaves to leave a film of a cap of a head. Lacing is mostly few and far between.
The smell had some light of tropical fruit, and peppery spice. After a bit of warming, there’s some rye malt.
The taste was basically the same with an added sweet breadiness intertwining and leading into the aftertaste. There’s a dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light allowing the spice to hit a bit harder for the harshness level of this beer.
Overall, whoah, better than expected from Two Roads. I’d have this again, nice saison leaning to the spicier side of the wheelhouse.

Sampled draft @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Hazy golden, small white head. Nose is dull orange, wheat, honey, sugar & candy. Taste is dull yeast, sugar, oatmeal, cereal, candy,.. Body is a bit thin. Boring at best. Meh. Saison is the new tripel.

Hazy medium golden colour, small frothy white head, mostly diminishing, fair lacing. Fruity aroma, tropical fruit, pear, peach, yeast, grass. Fresh flavour, light to medium sweet and bitter, fruity, spicy notes. Mild sweetbitter finish, citrusy, light peppery, very pleasant.

Lightly hazy deep, waxy-copper yellow beer with some brighter tints on the edges. Large amount of off-white head is moderately well-retained.
Very, very fruity nose, kind of reminds me of Saizoen Bretta on draught, though minus the brett part. Not heavy on the banana (though it’s there) but with tons of clove, orange, mango and pepper. It all is pretty well-balanced and cohesive, with grainy, caramel-tinged malts sitting in the background. It’s lightly rustic on account of the grain bill, giving it less a straightforward pale/pils malt ubiquitousness. My biggest problem, however, is the lack of distinctive saison quality. No mustiness, very little tartness, cellar notes, minerals, plaster, etc...As I smelled it, I think I would have identified it as a Belgian wit or German here, blindly. Granted, all three styles have a lot of overlap, but I’m less interested in the examples that lean heavily on tropical fruits, clove and banana, which this one does.
In the flavor, it’s got a watery, softly malted texture with lively carbonation, not altogether tight. Spicy (white pepper) and bits of acidity (again, rather German here-like) with pale malt sugars being blunted by a decidedly bitter, astringent note through the middle. Not sure what the hell it is, but it’s very disruptive to the focus and drinkability of the beer. It’s heavily spicy and ends with light hop notes, more clove and light caramel. Meh, Phil can (and has) do much, much better with a saison. I do appreciate the restraint on the abv, however.

Bottle from Vernon CT Hazy dark straw color with a huge bubbly white head that persists. Earth and light funk with a vinous almost grape jelly hint to it. Light citrus and tartness. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation that leaves a bit of a bubbly mouthfeel. Nice saison if not just a touch on the heavy side.

Bottle. An unclear, yellowish beer with a small, dense, white head. The aroma is lighlty grainy, with a generic fruityness and some piney, citrusy hints. Rather grassy too. The flavor is a bit lacking on complexity, with grainy pale malts, citrusy, grassy hops and a decent bitterness. Lacking on the goodness the saison yeasts normally brings. Medium to full body, dry and with a nice carbonation level. Fruity finish. Quenching and easy drinkable, but rather boring. 150610

Bottle 355ml @ Hotel Room, Best Western Plus, Waterbury, VT
Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, wheat, yeast, citrus, mango and hint of pepper. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long yeasty, fruity and pepper finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle. Slightly hazy gold, with a decent, white, head and plenty of fizz. Floral, slightly peppery, hops, grainy malts, a hint of citrus, leading to a dryish finish. Good.

750 ml bottle with a stamp of 12/19/14. Adrien during his Going away party. Hazy bright gold color, thick head that laced well. Aroma is subtle yeast, Chardonnay barrel has a drying affect in the finish. The grain, yeast and barrel is married together really well. Light bitterness with almost a grassy hint. Pretty decent.
