The first beer we ever brewed at Weird Beard, back in February 2013, was a beer called Single Hop Chinook. This comprised of Pale Malt, Special B and a f*@ktonne of Chinook. It was basically a really bitter brown beer. But with an ABV over 8%, it was hardly your standard English style bitter. On our 1 year anniversary we could think of nothing we would rather brew again, but this time we named it Boring Brown Beer, An Imperial Best Bitter. We also stuck some in a Heaven Hill Bourbon barrel, as you do, and this is the result.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy broken light cream head. The aroma is nutty malts, alcoholic fruit. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a rich alcoholic bitter palate and a bubbly mouthfeel. Medium bodied with lively carbonation and a lingering bitter finish.

MTB at Brewdog, Shepherd Bush. Keg. Very hazy deep amber beer, small pale.cream colour head. Palate is light and slightly soft. Smooth malts, traces of cream and caramel. Light vanilla oak with touches of woody bourbon bitterness. Punchy dried fruits. Smooth semi dry finish. Comes together very well. Bitterish linger.

Keg at Brewdog Shepard’s bush at the weird beard launch. Translucent rich red / redwood brown coloured pour with a lasting thin cream coloured head. Aroma is hot fussel alcohol, oak and booze and hairspray. Some orange peel and caramel in the nose as well. Flavour is caramel, oak, burnt toffee and tangy orange peel. A bit rough round the edges a fair bit of hot alcohol on the tongue as well. Palate is medium full with moderate carbonation.
