This special lager is brewed at the end of August, with more malt and extra hops. The hops from our own region (Erembodegem) give the beer a nice bitter aftertaste. During the maturing of more than 2 months, the beer has matured naturally and all aromas have developed. Thanks to the natural saturation, the beer has a very fine pearly carbonation like champagne and a nice, dense and stable foam head. The result is a unique, bottom fermented blond beer that distinguishes itself from the sweet dark Christmas beers.

Little cloudy pale yellow beer, big aery fuzzy head, bit stable, adhesive. Aroma: hay, stable, grains, bit grassy, some citrus, spices. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: grains, malts, pretty fruity, hay, stable, grassy bitterness, little sweet. Aftertaste: hay, pretty bitter, grassy, still fruity, lemon, tangerines, grains, all-bran. Reminds me a LOT of all the German Helles I recently had on holidays.

July 2008: Oh dear, Tim Webb describes it as possibly the best Pilsner brewed in Belgium. My findings are very diferent. He claims 6%, I claim 5.2%. Choosen from the huge beer list at Cafe Botteltje in Ostend. My beer was out of date and this is not for ageing obvisously, as it was almost undrinkable. OK, only a sado like me would have finished it. A dull old gold colour, with a white head, so it looked OK. The 33cl brown bottle gave off a citrus smell and the beer looked fizzy, please read on. The beer from the list I had before this one, was a murky sludge (an out of date ’Lam Gods’). This beer had the aroma and taste of a lemon cleaning liquid, which came in handy the next day as I cleared up after the sludge fell out of me. A beer that smells and tastes like a toilet block isn’t my normal drink, but you only live once, don’t you?

Zesty and intensely floral. Lemon tones. An unusual Pils and a good one.

Hazy, bright yellow colour. Massive soapy head. Fresh citrus aroma. Clean and fresh on the palate. A little hoppy and slightly acidic with a light metallic aftertaste.

Bottle from beermerchants.com. Pours a clear gold colour with a white head which slowly disappears. Fruity aromas, wheat, some citrus floral. Had to really bury the nose in this one. Flavours of pineapple, grapefruit, some ginger. Finishes hoppy, sweet and bitter. Light and refresthing.

Bottle from Dranken Geers. Clear pale gold with hint of green, lasting white head. Butter on aroma. A slightly buttery lager, which is ok, but not great, but the butter isn’t great. Mouthfeel is ok and so is the sparky hop sting on the finish. Hmmmm Diacetyl. Hop on finish is ok, so is the mouthfeel and swallow. But diacetyl is not good.

Bottle: Hazy, golden with a big fluffy and quickly collapsing white head; distinctive noble-hoppy nose with a sweet pale-malty background; solid bitter-sweet flavour, soft, silky MF, light to medium bodied; lingering noble hoppy finish, balanced by a good dash of sweet pale malt. A very fine belgian Lager of unexpected quality.........
