Originally brewed to mark the Queen's Coronation in 1953, this prize winning golden barley wine proved so popular that it has been brewed ever since. It is comparable in strength to the beer produced by Tudor brewers during the reign of Elizabeth I. Regular drinkers simply asked for a 'Lizzie'.

275mL bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours transparent dark golden orange with almost no head. Aroma of maple syrup, heaps of caramel, brandy-like liqueur and a slight boozy quality. Flavour is quite sweet, with brandy, caramel and quite potent hops that come in toward the end. Quite nice, but not as complex or robust as the best of barley wines.

275ml bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. ABV 8.1% Bright golden amber with a ring of white head; rich aroma of barley sugar, and apricots; thick oily texture, more barley sugar and caramel flavours, but not too sweet; with a rich vinous finish. An excellent barley wine.

Någonstans mellan en strong ale och en barley wine. Maltigt söt kropp med toffee och sirapslimpa som bryts av med en för kategorin ganska oväntad beska med lång eftersmak.

Bottle shared by Jack, thanks! Pours a near clear reddish brown with a thin tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has caramel and bread with a good amount of raisin and dates underlying. Flavor combines bread and raisin with a hint of caramel and dates underlying.
