On tap at Kernel, as Bière de Saison, 5.1%. It was sour, so my guess is it wasn’t the regular Saison. Not completely sure about his version. Clear pale golden colour, no head. Aroma is tart, lemons, funk. Flavour is tart, floral, lemons, light hoppy, light funky, bitter finish. Light bodied. Got better with every sip.

At ACBF 2014 and again at GBF 2016. Thick and creamy, yellowish white head, hazy yellow blonde colour with slightly greenish hue. Very estery nose, apricot, sweet white grapes, pineapple, starfruit, lemon or lime touch, bitter honey, flowers, sour cream, green apple, something sweaty; fruity taste, estery, sourish and tart with drying effect, yoghurty, bit grainy in the middle, yeasty, citrus touch, bitter, spicy hops finish, where the drying tartness also continues a bit. Quite nice.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the brewery. Pours lightly hazy, pale yellow with a frothy white head that settles quickly. Lovely aroma with a piercing lactic edge, some underripe peaches, lemon. Lightly sweet with quick sour bite, pleasant dry wheat, lemon peel, a bit of citric tartness, some pale wood. Light bodied with average, spritzy carbonation. Nicely balanced on the finish with some further woody notes, drying tannins, lemon, subtle funk, musty basement, mellow grassy bitterness. Nicely dynamic, refreshing, and exceedingly drinkable.

This looks to be the same beer as Kernel have released previously in various guises but this one is notably stronger. A hazy paleish gold beer, small off white head. Palate is light, semi dry and a little crisp. Mild sourness, trace of lemon. Very light touch of red wine, barely there. Get the impression this barrel has been used more than once. Light dry finish. Easy going.

Bottle date 4.7.14. Pretty much as above but with a notable white wine tang, instead of red wine. Mmmm. Different Burgundy barrels? Tres confusing!

Bottle at home picked up from the Brewery. Clouded bright yellow coloured pour with a small fleeting halo of white head. Aroma is fairly nice funky sour peach yougurt, pineapple, little white wine. Hint of wood on the nose as well. Flavour is composed of tangy fruit, white apricot and peach. Some nice light funk, crisp sour. Palate is crisp, light tart, highish carbonation. A little vinous, white wine in the finish and hint of wood. Decent, pretty unique beer.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop and drunk at home. Pale gold hazy, thin white head, lasting. Lemon and lactose on the aroma. White wine? Maybe some melon. Not overly woody. The London Sour comes through in the mouth, not hugely saisony. I mean it’s got some chardonnay flavour. Some sour cooking apple flavour. Some custard. It’s odd. There is plenty here I normally don’t like. But the overall effect is pretty good. The apple is nice. Odd. But oddly ok.

Bouteille 33cl, bought @ Vine, Birre Ribelli event, Bruxelles.
