(Bottle, 0.25 l - L130 - BBE 12/18, at Inez. 20150307) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had vanilla, burnt malts, sherry and vineousness. Palate was full bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Alcohol was well hidden. Flavours were burtn malts, wood, vineousness, sherry and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. A very good barrel aged brew.

Bottle @ Van Moll Brewpub shared with Erwin Van Moll. Opaque pitch black color, average brown head. Aroma is quite heavy, reminds me of band aid and it’s quite earthy and iron. Taste malts, roasted malts, iron, earthy, somehow a bit sourish, sherry BA comes through clearly but it doesn’t improve the beer imo. Thick oily texture, a hint of smoke in the finish as well as a slight sourness of the sherry. Totally tastes like intended I think, but not my thing.

Bottle 25 cl. Pours a thick, pitck black with a tiny light brown head. Thick as motor oil with a very low carbonation. Rich licorice aroma with subtle roast. Mellow wooden accents and a little booze. Naturally very rich, not super roasty, more like dsrk dried fruits. The wood is very downplayed, I would’ve love a more distinct Sherry imprint. Warming alcohol finish. Quite a wonderful sipper. 160215

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a rich oily deep mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is sweet, smoky caramel malt. the flavour is strong bitter, light sweet with a rich, malt,, alcoholic liqourice bitter palate and lots of alcohol burn. Full bodied with soft carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. A nice enough beer, but way too alcoholic which starts to dominate... and a beer that burns as this one does is not too great.
