This was an ASSAULT!
This beer shredded my palate, and I couldn’t taste anything for the rest of the night. Very resinous, pine, loads of citrus, and grapefruit. No malt anywhere to be found, and the bitterness was intense. It stuck to my throat, and just coated it. For a hop head this is heaven.

Aroma of malt, caramel, ripe tropical fruits, citrus, grapefruit, orange, sugary notes, pine, huge hops. Flavour is moderate sweet with a long bitter finish. Impressive explosion of aroma and flavour. I couldn’t find the bottle date but I suspect it had aged a bit. Will look for fresher bottles... in the future!

Notes from May 2009 Bottle from Julio's in April, no BBD. Carolus goblet, right after drinking a half growler of Avery collabo. Nearing an inch of sediment on the bottom. I didn't trip on any furniture on my way to my desk. Inch of cream-colored, milky head over a weighed down murky orange/amber body. Layered lace as it falls. Smell is full of buttery toffee, intense nuttiness & grass clippings. Barleywine tenancies creep in as I feel the alcohol macerating my nostrils. Taste is of burnt toast & sugar, leaves, & irritating grapefruit rind. Maybe a twinge of orange to go with the dusty finish. Oxidation-like newspaper note in there too. Alcohol is every bit the 10%. Balance is just something I'd prefer, but since there's no real complexity here, it doesn't offer up much besides acidic bitterness & the comforting notion that you can endure it(which sadly seems commonplace now). Carbonation is strong & beaded though, helping you endure. Still quite syrupy. The alcohol doesn't make any friends. A tired beer. I drink it as a penance.

Taste pour from can as part of blind taste test from One Stop Market. Appearance is clear gold with gorgeous lazy sparkle with finger-width foamy off-white head with good retention and no lacing. Aroma is citrus pine and malty. Taste is strong caramel and bready malts with medicine-y alcohol not much hops except bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture frothy carbonation and finish as taste. Overall nice mouthfeel but taste is more APA than IPA and IPA mostly for bitterness. High ratings seem to be from when bitter West-coast IPA's were king. Not feeling it in 2019.

Bottle. Grapefruit and red berries in the somewhat medecinal hoparoma. Firm oily hop flavor, somewhat medecinal with grapefruit, lemon and red berries. This beer is malty enough, but this is overpowered by the omnipresent hops. Long oily hopbitter aftertaste with pineapple.

Gravity cask at GBBF 2019. Orange-amber, clear, bubbly head. Acidic hop nose, citrus, light caramel, boozy. Sweet, smooth, boozy, caramel and sugar, orange, grapefruit, resins, bubble gum. Interesting and fun.
