La Luna Rossa was created with an initial sour beer which underwent 2 years of mixed fermentation (lactic bacteria, brettanomycetes). Then we added cherries for at least 6 months and we blended the new beer with a small part of other beers. La Luna Rossa is an ale that can remember a Kriek or a Flemish Red Ale. It has an extraordinary complexity associated with a strong character. For lovers of this kind of beers it is certainly hard to forget.

Tap at Erzbierschof. Very sour indeed, with some bitter almond. Punchy, rather a bit too much. Almost flat.

Bottle, Cuvée 2012. Pours slightly hazy red, with creamy pinkish head. Aroma is fruity with cherries and dark stone fruits, balsamic vinegar, wooden barrels and leather, as well as forest berries, whiffs of sherry and tobacco. Medium to full body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is tart with balsamic vinegar, musty berries, wooden barrels and leather. Lingering wooden finish with some musty notes.

From bottle at CBF Wien.
Brownish-amber, hazy body, with almost no head.
Aroma of sour cherries, barrel, overripe fruits, vinegar, some sour berries, some red apples.
Taste follows this, with more barrel notes and some leather.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes sour, wooden, leathery, fruity.
Very nice. Lovely sour fruits, combined with barrel notes. Well hidden alcohol. Not among my favourite sour ales, but really enjoyable nonetheless.
