La Luna Rossa was created with an initial sour beer which underwent 2 years of mixed fermentation (lactic bacteria, brettanomycetes). Then we added cherries for at least 6 months and we blended the new beer with a small part of other beers. La Luna Rossa is an ale that can remember a Kriek or a Flemish Red Ale. It has an extraordinary complexity associated with a strong character. For lovers of this kind of beers it is certainly hard to forget.

Flaska från SB. Stor lakto/vinäger syrlighet. Kanske aningen mycket bärig vinäger som dock till viss del matchas av en laktosötma med lite vanilj. Moreller, fuktigt trä, lite söt tobak. Fina smaker men lite mycket vinäger.

Aroma is tart and sour with vinegar, acidic tones and some kriek-like sourness. Also earthy tones. Flavour is very acidic with vinegar, earthy tones and sour cherry juice. So sour and acidic that it affects drinkability.

Tap @TCBW15. Light red/brown, thin thin white head. Vinegar, glue, tart aroma. Cherries. Whoa, this is hardcore stuff. Flavor has tartness, cherries, vinegar, woody notes. Sticky. Too vinegary for me.

33cl bottle (bb: 2050!) at Crowbar, Oslo. Hazy reddish without much head to speak of. Fruity and slightly funky aroma with wooden notes, sour cherries, balsamic vinegar and hints of sour apples. Moderate sweet with a moderate acidity and nice fruity flavours. Some vinous notes. Interesting and quite delicious.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Hazy amber/light brownish with a minimal head. Tart aroma of cherries, oak and some vinegar. Similar taste, also some light notes of spices. The finish was tart and quite dry.

A burgundy red ale with a very thin white head. In aroma, pleasant sour cherry, with light lactic acid, berries, candy sugar, very nice and soothing. In mouth, a nice mix of sweet and sour cherries, light butter, puckering yet delicious... Mamamia!!! On tap at Common Market South.

Bottle from 2011. The beer is a maroonish brown. It seems to be quite cloudy and has absolutely no head. The aroma is big on cherries, funk and wine barrel flavors. Sweet grapes with sour cherries on top. There might be a little malty sweetness but it’s well in the background. Mild acetic note. Really nice fruitiness, though it’s on the path to too sweet medicinal territory. The taste starts out smoother with a bit more malt body if not flavor than expected. It has a round, kinda sugary flavor upfront that I guess comes from the barley wine addition. Moderate acetic sourness. A bit harsh. Less fruit than in the aroma. Some oak in the background of that sour finish, kinda surprised that it’s not stronger. Interesting beer. I like the combination of wine barrels and cherries, but the sourness isn’t quite right for my palate.
