Draft at Rustico Alexandria. Poured a pitch black with a tiny, tan head. Aroma was dark roasted malts, plenty of barrel notes here. Flavor was dark fruits, malts, barrel, and a lot of alcohol. Warming, which kind of stinks on the hottest day so far this year (101 degrees at Reagan Airport, just down the street).

Bottle thanks to footbalm for sharing this one. Pours out black topped with a dark tan head. Aroma was of bourbon, oak, dark roast, vanilla, milk chocolate notes, and some pit fruit. Taste was as the aroma with the bourbon warmth and rich sweet malts.

Batch 8: Oak and bourbon aroma, with the oak more prominent. Black pour, thick lucious brown head. Quite pronounced bourbon flavor, but palatable, with a charred oak finish. Nicely done and would be rated higher if I like bourbon.

Batch 3 thanks to Secret Santa. Shared at the Bruery. Pours with a black body and a somewhat minimal tan head. Aroma is strongly bourbon, licorice, wood, vanilla. Taste is woodsy, like attic, wood, bourbon, licorice and fudge. Big mouthfeel, very syrupy. Nice, but it looked like the cork was getting a bit corked (retaining liquid in its mass). I am glad I opened it now.

#4 on cork I brought to PilsnerPeters-750ml bottle-pours a big foamy brown head and black color. Aroma is anise/molasses-dark malt. Taste is bourbon, wood, anise/molasses-dark malt, some earthy hops.

Huge thanks to Retorp for finally getting off his ass and cracking this beautiful Batch 1 bottle. Pours deep dark abyssness with thin mocha head. The mild aroma brings notes of dark roasted malts, chocolate, crystal malts, molasses, prunes, raisins and dates. The taste begins with dark grapes, raisins, prunes and a hint of ripe cherries. Those notes are quickly followed by wood, mild bourbon sweetness, dark roasted malts, chocolate and molasses. Very nice. I get smooth goodness with a hint of alcohol showing up into the finish.

courtesy of retorp. Thanks for this sublime offering. Pours black with beige head and yellow lacing. Aroma is loaded with bourbon and wood - oak. I could really smell this glass all night long. Taste, light hops caramel malts with vanilla and exceptional touch of the Bourbon barrel.

Sample at the Day Before Labor Day party. This beer is nearly black with a medium light brown head that dissipates steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, charred malt and dark chocolate. Full-bodied with a rich bourbon and oak character, and flavors of chocolate malt, yeast and spices. The finish is chocolatey with some spiced alcohol left behind. Good all around.

Chocolate, vanilla, some roasted malt and caramel hints and a bit of oak and alcohol burn. Full body with medium low carbonation and a syrupy finish with some alcohol kick. Bottle, batch #2 - 8.9%ABV, picked up from the brewpub. Consumed on 03/30/2008. Dark black body with ruby highlights and a fairly thin brown head that pulls through. Nice bourbon aroma with roasted and chocolate malt and hints of fruitiness. Sweet vanilla, chocolate, light bourbon, and roasted malts, some light fruitiness. Medium full body with low carbonation, smooth finish with a nice alcohol warming.

Batch 1. Before I even pour, the bourbon barrels really come though. Smells like a winery Pours near-black with a foamy brown-colored head. Bourbon comes through on the taste as well. Very creamy and smooth. Drinks like a wine. This is a hit 8/3/8/4/17/4.0.
Rerate: Batch 3 on draft at the brewery. Aged 131 days on Wild Turkey barrels. Dark brown color with thin but persistent head on the surface of the beer. Aroma of oak, vanilla, bourbon, pepper, chocolate. Bourbon and oak come through very strongly in the taste with notes of vanilla, maple, hop bitterness and a chocolate that grows in intensity as the beer warms. Smooth feel, medium body. 8/4/9/4/1/4.2
Rerate: Batch 3 bottled version from the brewery. Black pour with a minimal dark brown head. Very complex aroma of bourbon, oak, bread, vanilla, raisins. Taste is very oaky with strong bourbon and some vanilla. Lingering hops. Thick feel and very smooth. Subtlly astringent. 9/3/8/4/16/4.0
