An ode to the Aussie hops that contribute to this unique imperial sparkling ale, Boom Crash Hopera was brewed in collaboration with our SoCal compatriots at Beachwood Brewing. Highlighted by English malts and a bonzer of Summer, Galaxy, & Vics Secret hop varietals, drink in the juice notes of pear, passion fruit, and pineapple in this ripper of a beer!

Pounder can from chalet premiere. Lots of strong volatile boozy rubbery inner tube hops on the nose. Cloudy off pale. Big thick head. Big bitter biting hops from the start, difficult and nastily on style, wheeeeew. Much more medicine than my lager lovin taste buds can handle. So big, so bad, so triple IPA. Thick and viscous on the palate as well as mouth coating like chewing on rude ass partially fermented pine needles ground up into green grapefruit rinds. One big ass kicking imperial experience. If you want to catch a buzz on one beer, this is the one for you as long as you can put up with its slick impact bitterness. ? 63

Sample at Bob's Bar. Clear amber-bronze color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lace. Aroma of grassy hops, citrus and roast malt. Medium to full body with flavors of grapefruit, spicy hops and caramel malt. The finish is fruity with a citrus and hop aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

You might see the trap but you still fall in -- who convinced the nice Americans that bonzer is a quantifier? Same people who think this an imperial Australian-style sparkling ale? Lovely people but you could flog 'em used derps at Engadine Maccas. 473 ml can. Cloudy amber with rocky white head.Brooding tropical fruit aroma with pineapple, passionfruit, some mango. Bready but not all that sweet. Tenor register tropical fruit and strong bitterness. Cleaner than it looks but aromatics still struggle a little through the body. But eventually there is a long fruity bitterness that fades to a point. Alcohol is just about hidden.

16 ounce can. Pours a bright clear orange copper hue with a large white head. A interesting malty citrus nose. Bitter hops, orange peel, something meaty and funky, almost lagerish. Sort of odd, not particularly clean. Enjoyable though.

Can. Amber beer with a cream head. Light spice. Spice and yeast flavor. Medium bodied. Spice and yeast linger with light pine and light citrus.

Tap at Cap Hop. Pours orange/copper with a white head. Aroma of citrus and unparsable tropicals. Med body or better. Flavor is earthy, mixed tropicals and detectable citrus. Lightly roasty malt also discernible. Hoppy. Decently bitter. Very good DIPA.

16 ounce can from Woodman's Appleton, 8/18/19. Hazy dark amber, large foamy white head, fair retention. Aroma of tropical fruit, dank, melon, pale malt, a bit of toast. Taste is lemon, lime, melon, tropical fruit, toasted malt. Medium bodied, strong lingering bitterness. Some floral notes emerge in the backend. Decent.

16 oz. can, pours a hazy bright amber with a medium white head. Aroma is on the malty side, with English caramel malt, bready notes, and subdued resinous hops. Flavour is more hop-heavy, with robust resinous hops upfront, with some bitter pine, followed by bready English malt, and toasted caramel. Chewy caramel malt provides a big body, but doesn't impart much sweetness; the hops still shine and are ideally situated. Great balance between the hops and malt -- reminds me more of a west coast, old school, piney IIPA. Excellent.

Can from BevMo in Dana Point. Deep slightly dull copper amber pour with slight haze. Head is thin fine white. Aroma is peach and pear, overripe pineapple, rich molasses malt. Taste is big bitter sweet alcoholic, in the direction of a barley wine. Crisp sparkling (is it just the name?) bitterness followed by some slight fruit tartness, pineapple and pear, booze, toasted sugar. Rich slightly sticky mouthfeel. Big and heavy, but good. Might not be super fresh.
