In the 1700’s brewer Ralph Harwood in London came up with a beer that mimicked the flavor of a blended beer that was popular at the time. The hard working London porters favored this beer and it soon became known as Porter beer. Modern British smoke porters are dark, full bodied ales showing more roasted character than brown ales, and a slight smoky aroma. Chuckanut Smoke Porter carries the roasted malt and smoky flavor with grace and a clean smooth finish!

Dark brown color. Nice smokey nose with a hint of chocolate. Mouth is a bit all over the place with smoke,a touch of hoppiness a touch of acidity and roasted character, but its a bit lost. Ultimately pretty middle of the road take on the style

Dark brown, moderate smoke, beech, and a touch of chocolate. Good body, almost peaty smoke, light chococlate malts, basically delicious.

As part of a sampler tray during my visit to Bellingham Finally an Ale at this place... Deep clear chocolate brown color witha good sized dense off white head. Nice light roasted slightly smokey aroma. The smoke in the flavor is just right. Not so strong like sucking on beef jerky as other attempts. Very nicely balanced. and approachable for the style. Americanized maybe?
