The “Medieval Raw Ale” is a Belgian Sour Ale style beer with 8.5% ABV. Brewed with the aim of emulating the medieval method where the wort only reached the temperature of 70º avoiding boiling point. It was aged for 6 months in red wine barrels from Alentejo and fermented wildly with Brettanomyces. Finally, a second fermentation in wax sealed bottles. The result is a “Raw” beer with copper tones, easy carbonation, intensely bitter and aromatised with exclusive Pulowski Hops.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 28C). Bottle 39 cl - Batch T19 (BBF JUL 2020). AROMA: medium to medium-high barnyard, low wood, faint citrus and mold. APPEARANCE: light amber and clear. large ivory head with good retention. lace formation. TASTE: medium-high notes of barnyard, medium clean sourness, medium-low wet wood with a low citrusy background. medium bitterness with a dry to very dry finish. PALATE: thin body with high carbonation. OVERALL: a sour ale that was barrel aged but a bit mono-dimensional. it would benefit form a bit more malt presence.
