We collaborated with the coffee-roasting wizards from Kafferaven Per Nordby to come up with an unusual yet perfectly balanced sour beer that takes their amazing beans in the composition. We used an enormous amount of Swedish blueberry pure and cold brewed the coffee to add it during fermentation to blend the flavors perfectly. Great winter chugger. Available one time only. 30 Kegs available for export
No brewer in the world can start brewing wort in the morning without first brewing a fresh batch of coffee. No brewer at Spike at least. Here at the firm we are very different people working together, from different backgrounds with different tastes in a range of different ages but if there’s one thing we unanimously believe in is “yes, I’ll have another cup, please”.
Infusing coffee in beer has been part of the industry for a long time and most wort wranglers have steeped some beans in a Dry Stout or an Imperial Porter, it’s only natural. After a couple of small projects together with the roasting wizards from Kafferaven Per Nordby we were properly introduced to the world of specialty coffees and blown away by the stunning difference in flavour from almost identical looking beans. One of our favorite Kafferaven beans was a natural Ethiopian variety that has a strong fruity and berry-like aroma and flavour, high acidity and a super refreshing mouthfeel. That inspired us to challenge ourselves and work backwards to replicate the flavour experience of that beautiful cuppa-joe.

Tap at Hopa. Pours light purpleish with a pink head. Nose is low coffee, some berries, faint sourness. Taste is light lactic sourness, a touch of blueberries and pretty moderate coffee. Light bodied with soft to average carbonation, drinks pretty easy. Not bad at all, but the coffee and the beer dont really seem to be in harmony. Also, I couldnt help feeling that the coffee used wasnt particularly top shelf stuff.
