U.S. Open Beer Champion – named “Best Hefeweizen in America” by the Craft Beer News Service. Classic aromas of banana, clove and floral citrus blossom. Fruity, spicy aromas show a rich yeasty character that follows through on a smooth, medium-bodied palate with a delicately spicy finish.

HISTORY

This summer specialty is made with fifty percent malted wheat for a clean, light, refreshing character, plus a special Bavarian yeast that creates the classic cloudy appearance and banana, clove, and lemon character. To decant from the bottle, pour three-quarters of the bottle into a glass and gently shake the remaining contents to mix the yeast back into the beer and then top off your glass. Delicious with a slice of lemon but we prefer it au natural.

Our Bliss artwork features a lion (the symbol of Bavaria) front and center. We went with the striped tent and carnival scene in the background to bring together the great midwest summertime traditions of county fairs and amusement parks with Munich’s Oktoberfest – the mac daddy of all festivals signaling the end of summer.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a weizen glass. Hazy golden with small white head. Aroma is wheat esters, light body, lower carbonation, and some lacing. Taste is grainy wheat and some esters. Below average Hefeweizen.

Yes, this is classified as a hefe but I beg to differ, it really comes across as a wheat ale. Unless this is an old bottle, and I can’t find a date code, it seems to really lack many of the civilized german hefe notes I have come to enjoy. When I opened it and poured it foamed all over the place, wew. Does have some wheaty banana in the nose, but you have to look for it. Yes, a little mor bitter than a hefe, I don’t think this is really as low as 15 IBU, much higher IMHO. Lots of sediment on the bottom of the bottle. I guess ths is someplace between a hefe and a wheat ale but certainly leaning towards wheat ale fer sure. Somewhat difficult in the end. Quite boozy.

12 ounce bottle into weizen glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lemon, orange, pear, apple, banana, bubblegum, clove, wheat, biscuit, light honey, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, orange, pear, apple, banana, bubblegum, clove, wheat, biscuit, light honey, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Light-moderate spicy/herbal bitter finish with slight wheat tartness; with lingering notes of lemon, orange, banana, bubblegum, clove, wheat, biscuit, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice standard hefeweizen style. All around good robustness, balance, and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Draft - Banana and some wheat with clove. Murky yellow gold with a decent white head. Fruity sweet banana with light wheat notes and citrus peel. Creamy and pleasant.

Pour from bottle. Hazy, dark yellow. Too much banana for my taste. A little too heavy on the palate for a wheat beer.

Bottle in Detroit. Cloudy, yellow-orange appearance with a small white head. Orange citrusy, moderate banana and clove, somewhat spicy, wheat malty aroma. Tangy, slightly citrusy tart, mildly spicy, light to moderate banana and clove flavor. Not a fan of the tangy quality.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy gold with a white head. Aroma is light cloves and bubble gum. Flavor has the standard cloves, bubble gum, and wheat flavors of a somewhat light hefeweizen. Alright.

12 ounce bottle from mibirder. Thanks! Pours a very inappropriate crystal clear orange color with a thin head. Poor head retention and lacing. There was some yeast hiding in the bottle that did not come out on the initial pour, giving the beer a sight haze. Aroma is bread and caramel apples. Taste is bread, citrus, apple and light spice. Lightly tart finish. Thin bodied. Lightweight overall.
