The weather is really too warm for an imperial stout but I’ve had this 33 cl bottle from Belgian Happiness for some time. Tilting into a snifter the body is a dark brown with a small amount of very fine, taupe foam. Nicely charged up, I see. The nose is roasty, chocolate and grain. I take a drink and determine early it is not really what I prefer in the style. Charcoal, dark malt, some rye effect, black licorice and grain. And so we learn.

Fles thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een diep donkerbruin bier met een beige schuim. Het heeft een gebrande moutige geur. De smaak is moutig, chocolade en bitter.

Bottle. Pours black, slightly darker, OK sized head. Smell is very roasty. taste is rather sharp, bit bitter, very roasty. Malty ( burnt), slightly sweet undertone. Thick aftertaste (roasty) . Ok mouthfeel ( very good for Belgian standards, but for INT standards this is ’ok’. Nice, low carbo. Simple, but just nice.

Courtesy of tderoeck. The imperial stout in this series, with a stable, light beige, dense head and very dark bronze colour, almost black but not quite. Aroma of coffee powder, caramel, bitter chocolate, dried orange peel, thyme. Caramelly and candied fruit sweetness in the onset, brown sugar touch, dried citrus peel freshness, after which a relatively thick, caramelly and somewhat chocolatey maltiness appears, evolving to a roasted bitter finish of fondant chocolate and some coffee, as well as mild herbal hops and some warming alcohol. Not bad, but as is usually the case in Belgian impies, this lacks thickness and boldness.
