Emphasizing that complexity of character can arise from simple elements, this ale is made with three malts and one hop. Its light amber color and slightly spicy malt character are derived from the use of German Dark Munich Malt and Rye Malt respectively. North American 2-row barley combines with the other grains to lay the foundation for the hop onslaught to come. Summit hops are used exclusively in the boil for bitterness, flavor and aroma but it doesn't end there. Post-fermentation dry hopping allows the 10% ABV monstrosity to gently coax the citrus rind and grapefruit aroma to join the 100 IBUs already present. This beer should greet you with a pungent citrus blast, provide a spicy yet round middle and finish with a brisk, clean bitterness.

12 fl oz can. Pours a clear orangey amber colour, frothy foam white head leaving some lacing and aroma of caramel, mango tropical fruit, citrusy resin hop. Taste is malt caramel balanced against melon notes & grapefruit citrus hop bitterness, plus spicy warming alcohol. Oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry hoppy bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Can at home. Classic Summit aromas - grassy and citrus. Pours clear gold with a good white head. Taste is a little sweet, and you can tell the booze is high. Full bodied, thick texture, good carbonation. Long finish. Overall a very good IIPA, but not the best thing I’ve tried from these guys.

Well-rounded package. An iimperial IPA that sits in uncharted territory towards the barley wine category. Lots of citrus hops in aroma with some booze and tangy malt. Pours light clear orange with good head and lacing. Finish is bitter and tangy with a little spicy zest in there – very nice finish here. Great package, great beer – and who knows how old the can I had was. Chilled to perfection in the back of a toilette in Nuqui on the Pacific Colombian coast.

Can from 5000, thanks! I love it when the aroma permeats the air, as soon as I popped the top. Sweet citrus, caramel, and pine... wonderfully potent. Pale golden color with a finger of creamy beige head. Just looks delicious. Thick sticky lacing. It has a nice weight to it, soft and velvety on the way down. Sweet at first, then full of hops to finish. A powerful blend of citrus and piney hops go well with the caramel malts. Lingering finish. I really love the weight of the body and too many in this style get syrupy... this boy is thick. Great stuff!

Can. Pours clear golden light amber with a small creamy white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is hoppy, but mostly pine and spruce notes, with some citrus in the mix. Flavor is the same, very light sweet and strongly bitter, with an underlying spiciness to it. Wayyy too bitter for proper balance here, and the 10% comes through as a far-finish warming that is not welcome. Light to medium body. Not a great one for me.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 3/11/2013. "Evenin’ Gubna!" slogan. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, orange zest, orange rind, lemon zest, light caramel, honey, pine, floral, grass, and floral earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and malt notes, without being overly sweet; though it is pretty muted for a DIPA. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, orange rind, lemon zest, light caramel, pine, floral, grass, and piney spiciness. Good amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, citrus rind, light caramel, pine resin, floral, and piney spiciness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and good complexity of hop and malt flavors; with a great bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and full bodied; with a slick and sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice DIPA. Good balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; and quite smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Can at home (Beermongers, PDX) 25/11/12. Almost clear golden.amber with a mahoosive white head that hangs around for a few minutes, subsides and retains. Lacing ensues. Nose is heavy on caramel malts, sweet mango, sugars, toasted malts, bitter orange, little spice and burnt tones on the last inhale. Tastes of sweet caramel malt, pine, hops, touch of spice, light mineral tones, bitter tropical fruits. Fullish end of medium bodied with fine carbonation leading to a bitter finish. The alcohol is very well hidden in this excellent DIPA.

Shared at home from a 12 oz can. Pours a cloudy gold with a white head. Aroma of fresh mowed lawn. Grass, citrus and a bitter finish.
