Cream head, fast gone over deep brown beer. Milkchocolate/praliné, tiny bit of wood. Chocolate, quite burnt/roasted. Vanilla comes out in the finish, certainly warming up, but nowhere the classical Bourbon onslaught. Well-bodied, quite slick, real chocolate in the aftertaste, well-carbonated. Bottle shared at tasting at my house. Pours very dark brown/black with tan head. Nose and taste of grape, Belgian cookie, fig, oak, roast chocolate malt, vanilla, butterscotch and raisin/plum. Medium body. Slight booziness.

Aroma: The nose is pretty strong, roasted, dark fruit/fig, lots of booze/bourbon, vanilla, and wood
Appearance: A dark brown color with a huge froth of beige-brown head and medium-plus lace
Flavor: The flavor is fairly complex, there’s a lot of dark fruit, malty sweetness, plenty of booze
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it feels a little sticky, and has way too much carbonation
Overall Impression:  I have enjoyed the couple of things I’ve tried from Kane, and I was super excited to grab a bottle of their 1st Anniversary beer. I’m strongly in favor of new NJ breweries opening of this quality, and I look forward to move of their beers showing up soon. Anyway, I liked this one, it has some flaws, particularly the carbonation, but ultimately it is quite enjoyable.

The cage on this is wound really tight and as I’m fighting with that it gets loose enough that the cork is able to explode off the top of the bottle and hints me on the side of the head. WTF! I still can’t find the cork, or maybe I have a concussion. Seriously at fridge temp it came off like a champagne cork. I poured this quickly because I was afraid of the mess it was going to make, but surprisingly most of the carbonation stayed in suspension, I’m thankful I opened this right out of the fridge. Pours a solid slightly hazy dark brown with a huge foamy tan head that takes forever to recede and leaves some stickies on the sides of the glass. The aroma is sweet and fruity with a roasty edge to it. Lots of plums cherries and raisins with a fair amount of caramel and brown sugar and a hint of coffee and chocolate. Spicy yeasty esters remind us that this is a Belgian inspired brew. The flavor follows the aroma quite well, but adds a bit of oxidation and a hint of ash to the mix. Medium to thick body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. Not a bad tasting brew. Its obviously way over carbonated which affects the mouthfeel, and based on the residual sweetness I can only see that getting worse.
