Second rating: Big beige head. Clear brown body with strong carbonation. Spicy resiny herbal aroma with dusty rye and caramel notes. Dry resiny tropical fruit taste with wooden perfumy notes. [Bottle from Beers of Europe that Jim shared with me - cheers!] Deep amber with a moderate white head. Spicy red berries up front with a twang of grapefruit, then some bread and butterscotch. The hefty bitterness in the finish is perhaps a little cardboard-y, but nevertheless this is pretty decent stuff.

On tap at the Wharf. Half a finger of dense, light beige head sits on top of a clear, copper coloured body. There’s a light hint of butterscotch on the nose, but it’s mostly piney, citrusy hops, with support from some roasted notes. Medium to full body, pleasant carbonation, and quite bitter on the palate. Lasting bitterness in the end. Some caramel too. More of an Amber beer than an IPA I think, but tasteful and pleasant anyway. 120816

Bottle. It’s a more or less clear one, dark golden in color and with a nice off-white to pale beige head on top. Some lacings. Pine cones, lemon peel and some maltyness in the rather nice aroma. The flavor is pretty much the same, and of course there’s a good bitterness in it too, both initially and in the lasting finish. Full-bodied and decently carbonated. Not what I would expect from Ireland, in a positive way. Rating: 7-4-7-4-15-3.7. 110330

Bottle. It pours a clear, dark amber colored body and a small but dense off-white head leaving some cute lacings. The aroma has a touch of butterscotch in the back, but mostly clean bready maltyness. Pine cones and some lemon peel from the hops. It’s full-bodied and maybe a bit over-carbonated, at least it’s not as soft as I would like it. There’s a good bitterness in the flavor, with orange rind and some green pine cones-like notes. Lasting bitterness in the finish, but it stops too suddenly. Well, overall this is a nice beer indeed, and it’s been fun in the same month having both my first real Irish and German American-style pale ale or IPA. But it still isn’t up there with the classic ones. 110427.

Amber color; medium sized creamy head. Nice aroma of malt and caramel, with resiny hops. The caramel flavor is quite strong, the mouthfeel is dry; the hop is dry, very resiny, with some fruit (bitter oranges); strong bitterness.
Very American style; too much dry caramel flavor and harsh resins.

Hazy amber color, small creamy head. Another non-IPA, but a Golden Ale with a fair malt and caramel profile and a quite good hopping with mild aromatic components and resins.
Good.

Bottle. Hazy looking bronze beer with a strong head. The aroma is strongly hopped with a reasonable amount of bitterness, the flavour is very bitter and hopped with a yeasty dry finish. Overall a nice well hopped and bitter beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home in London. Pours clear, red-gold with a moderate, foamy white head. Aroma holds some wet pine, berries, toast, caramel and light grass. Nice flavor, if a bit wimpy. Light to medium sweet with some resinous pine, ripe orange citrus, toasty malts, light dirt and grass. Light bodied with average carbonation. Pretty smooth. Light to medium sweet to finish with bready, lightly toasty malts, some mild pine that’s slightly oily, very mild caramel, some faint citrus rind. Some soft but lasting gritty hops, like dirt, grapefruit rind and grass. It’s an OK APA. Good and drinkable, but it doesn’t have much kick.
