Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours brown with little head. Aromas of dark malts. Medium body; frothy carbonation. It’s roasted caramel with some decent bitter. It’s wonderfully flavorful.

Bottle. Vibrant black beer with a ruby reddish port look. The aroma is malty and mildly port like, and the flavour is malty, roasted and slightly yeasty. Overall a nice fortified malty tasting roasted beer.

Bottled as Saint Martin Brune. Dark brown colour. Thin head quickly disappears. Some caramel in the aroma. Body is thin and quite watery but produces lots of carbonation akin to a fizzy drink. Caramel sweetness with a bit of clove and liquorice in the back.

As Lumiere de Hiver. Dark, red-brown colour. Deep aroma of red fruits. Flavour is fruity with a little oak but very easy to drink. A great winter warmer.

Bottled (Bs, BB 07/2011). Dark nut brown color, small beige head. Toffee-caramelly aroma with grainy-papery notes. Nuts and hints of balsamico. Dark fruity flavor: fig, prunes, toasted nuts, toffee. Quite pleasant. Well-made sweetish brune, which feels less than 8%.

33cl bottle from Dranken Geers. Deep ruby with thin beige head. Rather an attractive malt nutty aroma. Very attractive malt sweet toffee nutty aroma. Really very impressed. The best compliment I can give it is that it reminds me of a couple of Struise beers with the aroma. Flavours roam around the bottom palate of darkish malts before they become too roasted or toasted, juicy dark fruits, dates and prunes. Fig even. After 30 fairly non descript Belgian at last something that is really quite interesting and different. I’m not a fan of fig or date, but this is good. Like a classic date and walnut loaf but with a lot more malt and a lot more date. In fact a bready walnut beer would almost make me delirious. This is far fruitier than that, but still a good beer. Impressive. No real hop presence and the mouthfeel isn’t great, but for a malty fruity beer, it is very good.

Bottle: Poured a hazy deep brown color ale with large foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of candi sugar with good Belgian malt backbone. Taste is also a nice mix between some candi sugar and strong malt backbone with some notes of dry fruits such as raisins. Good carbonation and full body with no noticeable alcohol. Very well done overall and a bit more character would have made this even better.
