Brown with a dark and sustained colour, topped with a light mousse. First lactic and cheesy, the nose reveals delicious accents of coffee and roasting, and notes of heated brown sugar, cane sugar and . The palate is reminiscent of roasted and toasted, with a very present caramel touch. EBC 80.

33cl bottle. pours dark brown, off-white head with few sediments. aroma, grainy, dark fruits, brown sugar, possibly some licorice. The flavor is really where this beer gets all its complexity. Some spices come mesh together with an amazing malty-roasted robe, giving a nice caramel profile with light coffee undertones. Dark fruits of prune, currants come nicely with a touch of licorice along with some brown sugar. Nicely done, mild warming abv becomes more present as beer warms up and adds to the tasting pleasure.

Bottle. Dark ruby-mahogony beer with a dark cream colored head. Dried fruit/plum aroma with yeast and light malt. Malt and yeast flavor with dried fruit and some earthiness. Medium bodied. Earth and yeast lingers with malt and light dried fruit.

Bottle, 17C. Deep reddish brown with a foamy tan head that fades rapidly to a coat. Smells of prunes, earth, licorice and (a little) port and lemon. Pretty sweet. Tastes of chocolate, dark brown sugar, stewed berries. Light yeasty sweet finish with a touch of hops that are more felt than tasted. Alcohol is certainly there but it’s quite integrated. Graceful.

330 ml bottle, now available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 8%. Mahogany coloured beer, huge beige head. Moderate aroma, notes of caramel, brown malts, brown bread and dust, hints of marzipan. The flavour has notes of brown bread with hints of caramel, but this is probably the driest dubbel I have ever had. Dust in the finish, very moderate hops. The alcohol is well hidden - I would have guessed that this was a 5.5- 6% beer, not 8%. Definitely drinkable, but far from exciting.

330ml bottle picked up at Vinmonopolet. Bubbly, dense, off-white head, slowly fading to a thin layer atop of a deep brown body with ruby shades. Unclear last pour. Herbal dryness to a mild malty aroma, with hints of nuts and caramel. Subdued candy sweetness in flavour together with caramel malts offset by tart, dark fruits. Notes of alcohol on the swallow. Medium bodied. A bit unusual and definitely worth drinking (Tromsø, 05.03.2010).

Medium beige head. Dark red body. Roasty caramelly malty aroma with toffee notes. Dry-sweetish malty toffee licorice taste with spicy cinnamon notes. Mid-bodied, kind of light. Dry herbal seeds of paradise aftertaste with floral licorice notes. Quite nice. (0.33l bottle, wine monopoly.)

Bottle. A big-headed beer with an unclear, reddish dark brown body. The head is beige, creamy and quickly diminishes into a half-finger thick layer of bubbles leaving lacings. Cellary nose with marzipan, raisins and prunes, some candi sugar, nutty hints, a touch of spices and some alcohol. All well integrated, leaving an uncomplex impression. Smooth, full-bodied and sweet on the palate. There’s flavors of dried fruits, candi sugar, cellar, some spices, nuts, some roasted malts and a faint bitterness. Even some doughy notes. Sweet, slightly coffee-ish finish with a bitterness trying to even out the scores. A nice brune indeed, but not up there with the classic Belgians. 100126

Flaske 0,33l kjøpt på Vinmonopolet i Tromsø. Dyp rød på farge. Høyt luftig skum med litt farge. Pent å se på. Aromaen er dominert av krydder og litt søt frukt. Smaken svakt fruktig - men litt tam. Litt bitterhet i ettersmaken. Uklar siste kvelling - og mye sedimenter i flaska.

Pours deep clear mahogany into a snifter. Head quickly recedes to nothing. Earth, toast and nut aromas. Sharp with upfront caramel turning to sweet pit fruit in the finish.
