Introduced in 2009 as the dark counterpart of the classic Augustijn Blond. Possibly an alias of Bornem Dubbel.

Aroma: Fruitig (rood fruit) en lichtjes gerookt

Marrón rojiza, ligeramente turbia. Dos dedos de espuma muy muy efervescente. Aroma floral y frutal, y a madera. Cuerpo medio y sabor muy frutal, de frutas del bosque, y algo de miel. Tono general un poco de jarabe, que la desmerece.

Bottle, 8%. Weak brown sugar aroma. Almost clear dark brown colour. Small stable lacy off-white head. The flavour is roasted and vinous, OK paper note, a little earth. OK warming alcohol in the finish.

Kolor: ciemno bordowy, opalizujący. Piana beżowa, drobna i trwała.
Aromat jak i smak to bardzo delikatne nuty owoców leśnych i minimalnie karmel, a wszystko to jakby za mało wyraźne.
Wysycenie niskie. Augustijn Donker jest zbyt wodnisty i za mało treściwy.
Goryczka bardzo krótkotrwała niczym utwór Napalm Death "You Suffer ( http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Suffer ) i nie dłużej.
Alkohol kompletnie niewyczuwalny. Piwo pije się bardzo łatwo, ale bez większego zaangażowania kubków smakowych.
Ten Augustijn jest raczej "średni", szkoda.

Kolor ciemno brązowy, klarowny. Piana barwy beżowej, wysoka, na okolo 3 cm, średnio trwała, drobno ziarnista. Delikatnie maluje na szkle.
Aromat słodowy, lekko palony, tytoniowy i ziemisty, z nutami suszonych owoców i przypraw korzennych. Intensywność aromatu na średnim poziomie.
Smak delikatnie słodowo słodki, skontrowany korzenną, ziemistą goryczką. Goryczka, choć nieprzesadnie wysoka jest kręgosłupem walorów smakowych. W czasie degustacji aromaty intensyfikują się, piwo wydaje się być jeszcze bardziej korzenne (zimowe).
Alkohol dobrze ułożony. Wysycenie średnie plus. Ciało najwyżej średnie w dół, mimo iż wysycenie nadaje pełności. Tekstura gładka, "śliska". Posmak wytrawny, korzenny, ziołowy, średnio długi.
Uwagi: uczciwie, nie jest i nie będzie to moje ulubione piwo, ale dzięki specyfice aromatu, dzięki temu co nam oferuje, jest bardzo interesujące. Być może jeszcze kiedyś po nie sięgnę. Na zdrowie.

(Bottle, Cambrinus, Brugge, 23 Oct 2014) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of caramel, dark fruit and dark bread. Malty, slightly roasted taste with dark fruit, caramel, roasted nuts, a touch of chocolate and a gentle spicy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.

The dark counterpart of the classic blonde triple Augustijn, since 2009. Off-white, dense foam that sticks very firmly and cobweb-like to the grass, dark mahogany brown colour, misty. Typical Belgian dubbel aroma: candi sugar, dark chocolate bars, slight touch of coffee with milk, walnuts, pear, banana, elderberry syrup, liquorice candy, candied dates. Taste begins gently sweet, candied fruits and brown sugar with some iron, smooth and ’fluffy’, after which dark fruits and caramelly and nutty malts appear, in a soft and somewhat cliché but still rather pleasant way; finish has a bit toasted bitterness as well as grassy hops and a touch of warming alcohol, with lingering caramelly sweetness. Typical Van Steenberge ale, cliché and fairly enjoyable, I could even recommend this as a ’starter’s’ double - but then, it remains a bit boring too. A bit better than expected, but just a bit.

Draught as Cambrivinus Bruin @ Bierbrasserie Cambrinus, Brugge. Pours hazy very dark brown witg small off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel and fruit. Sweetish flavour of fruit and caramel malt, with subtle bitter, hoppy touches. Faint vinous hints. Rough and sweetish afteraste. Warming alcohol presence. A decent, regular Belgian Dubbel.

Bottle @ Home. Pours dark amber with a offwhite head. Aroma of malt, caramel, brown sugar, little dark fruits. Flavor is sweet malty, candy sugar, caramel, dark fruits, dates. Thin to medium body, somehow overcarbonated. 130714

330ml bottle, shared with Stefan at Brevinga, Riga (18.12.13) Mahogany coloured body, small beige head. Prunes and dates, some malt and hints of cow patty. Prunes, dates and dark fruits in taste as well, the alcohol is noticeable.
