Fruited 'NEDIPA' by the great Nanobrasserie de l'Ermitage, with pineapple and mango apparently; bottle from Etre Gourmet, now a few days more than a month old. Egg-white, bit uneven-bubbled, medium sized head quickly reduced to a mousy, open ring and a small patch of foam in the middle; completely cloudy robe in an 'opaque' way, deep peachy blond with egg yolk-like yellow glow, looking like a glass of mango juice from a bottle. Aroma of indeed lots of ripe mango, far less strong pineapple (in a more 'green' kind of way), baby's fruit purée, kafir lime, orange cake, jasmin blossoms, perfume, lemon zest, gin, dried ginger powder. Utterly fruity onset as expected, brimming with juicy mango and some sourish pineapple along with hop-induced notes of lychee, lime and mandarin; softish carb but still finely prickling the tongue, full and smooth body, bit creamy if it were not for that somewhat overactive, yet - to me - undisturbing carbonation. Cracker-like malt body, doughy too, but immediately and completely soaked in the mango and pineapple fruitiness, adding fruit purée sweetness and tanginess and merging almost seamlessly with a very expressive, colourful and very zesty hoppiness. This 'wave of hops' generates more zesty citrusiness retronasally than mango-like 'tropicality', but that part is taken care of by the fruit itself, of course; ends very spicy, though, with a rooty, eventually even somewhat quinine-like, peppery hop bitterness, in itself reinforced by very clear, gin-like, peppery alcohol. The fruit pulp effect does absorb much of this pepperiness, but it still lingers on and on after swallowing. Very tangy, zesty and boozy, more peppery than expected, even to the point of burning a bit in the throat, like actual pepper would - a textbook case of 'hop burn', a phenomenon typical for NEIPAs that is commonly seen as a brewing error. In that sense, this one is perhaps a bit of a challenge, especially to those expecting a sweet and aromatic 'juice bomb' like so many NEDIPAs tend to be, but I can take a lot of burn and am not usually bothered by this hop burn phenomenon (on the contrary even, in some cases). Bold and daring hipster beer that will not be for everyone, but a fun one to try once, if only to shock the 'average' Belgian beer consumer that this, too, is (a new form of) beer... The hop burn in this one is, as said, very strong though, perhaps too strong indeed.
