Lust 4 Life

Medium, fast receding white head, over beer looking for all the world as lemonjuice. Exotic fruit' nose, with very much lime in the picture, ever so slight ureum. Bitterish to bitter citrus, lime, limepeel, grapefruit. Wheat. Dry finish but the good carbonation and low alcohol make it very drinkable & refreshing, despite all the resins available. In the finish the resins get some flavour as from Christmas candle wax. Long lasting flavours. Nice.

Arôme est fleuri, bien houblonné, citron vert avec un effet un peu bonbon Napoléon, pointe tropicale en rétro-nasal avec un retour de noix de coco.
Palais est léger sec axé sur les grains - pils bien là et un côté belge au niveau de la levure. Houblonné bien ficelé, fleuri, noix de coco, citron vert revient plus en retrait. Sec sur la fin avec l'ajout de levure.

New session IPA by BBP, hopped with Sorachi Ace, Magnum, Hallertau Mittelfrüh and Merkur (a less familiar German variety developed in 2000), all grown in Belgium apparently. Bottle from the Delhaize supermarket in Lokeren - clearly this is one BBP has larger commercial ambitions with, influenced by the current trend of low alcohol beers (and still containing alcohol, contrary to their equally commercial Pico Bello). Initially foamy, snow white, irregular and very large-bubbled and loosely knit, collapsing head over a cloudy yellow-straw blonde beer with greenish tinge. Aroma of lemon zest, dried kaffir lime leaves, coconut coir, lilies, soap, swallowwort leaves, straw, white bread, subtler accents of jasmin blossoms, rosewater, pineapple, pear, baking soda, raw parsnip. Fruity onset but more from the hops than from esters, hinting at green banana, hard unripe peaches and Conference pear, restrained in sweetness with a sourish, lime-like hint, fizzily carbonated but still with a soft mouthfeel, yet quite soapy as well. This clear wheat soapiness and sourishness dominates the middle, with a white bread pulp-like barley effect and a grainy - but not really 'silky' - oat effect, aromatized by this very floral, perfumey hoppiness, filling the retronasal phase with kaffir lime leaf, jasmin tea, roses and lilies, as well as vague hints of starfruit and unripe pineapple. At only 12 IBU (says the label), a surprisingly tangy bitterness manifests itself in the finish, with associated earthy and leafy effects. It is hard to believe that the IBU is not higher than this, but hoppiness and bitterness are of course two different things, and particular minerally effects can certainly enhance the perception of bitterness even at lower IBUs. In all, not a bad effort, a hazy ISA, not so much fitting in the NEIPA idiom (though influenced by it) and in that sense quite a distinct one. BBP still manages to put quite a lot of personality in even their more commercial (larger market) beers and this is a good example of it. Probably tastes a lot better fresh from tap than from a bottle coming from a supermarket shelf, though...

33cl bottle from the brewery in Brussels. F: thin, white, quick gone. C: straw, milky hazy. A: orange, tangerine, tropical fruits, bit pine, pineapple. T: orange, grapefruits, long lasting almost bit harsh bitterness should be low bitter only 12 IBU but my feeling is much more, pineapple, medium carbonation, quite refreshing.
