375mL bottle, pours a hazy bright pinkish red with almost no head. Aroma is full of manure, horse blanket, earthy notes, and a little pithy cherries. Flavour has some phenolic notes, with manure, tart cherries and a touch of balsamic. Fairly rubbery, with manure, tart cherries and balsamic. Lots of poop in here. This isn't great.

0.375 l bottle shared with Antonija 🐁 at Valhalla Craft Beer Bar, Zagreb. Pale ruby red, minimal head. Light cherry aroma, red fruit, raspberry candy. Grainy background. Slightly candy like. Heavy phenolic flavour, burnt plastic, softens down to a cherry pit, still a bit harsh. Persistent red fruit flavour, slightly taninic. Light body, quite drinkable, light, moderately lasting dry fruity finish with a funky touch. Slightly empty.

Cherry version of Saison de l'Ouvrier by Italian sour ale specialist Loverbeer, vintage bottle of four years old (lot PGRI02-0715), 37.5 cl with crown cap; bought at DeSolari, a natural wine shop run by Hans Dusselier (the founder of the Heilig Hart brewery), also selling a few beers as well as sakes and other 'natural' beverages. Opens with a popping sound, followed by smoke rising up from the bottle neck and slow gushing - so slow that there is ample time to pour it properly. Medium thick, mousy, pale pinkish head, immediately open and quickly thinning to a tiny ring which in itself eventually dissolves into nothing; cloudy ruby red with coppery-brownish tinge and darker dots of dead yeast here and there. Aroma - as expected - dominated by sour cherry flesh and cherry juice, an almond-like aspect from cherry pits, lemon juice, red raspberry vinegar and sour redcurrant berries, very dry red wine or even a touch of red wine vinegar, dry hay, soggy old raisin bread, earthy red beetroot juice, vague hints of soapy wheat, heated swimming pool, old sweat. Crisp, sour onset, lip-smacking with again clear sour cherry dominance as in a 'oude kriek', but less complex in the ester department; green apple and unripe pear astringency mingle with this sour cherry flavour, which does show a certain 'fleshiness' and even, faraway, a hidden sweetish fructose touch. Astringently sour edges, bit puckering but not too harshly so, as the soft, bready, wheaty, doughy malt 'soil' provides a 'pillow' underneath; still the cherry sourness - aided by strong lactic tartness - succeeds in drying the entire palate, even more so when a sharpish woody tannic aspect develops, probably mostly due to cherry pits and skins. You can actually taste cherry pit oil astringency at the back, still a bit softened by the breadiness of the malts and yeast, the latter adding a late earthiness as well, almost to the point of getting a bit 'dirty'. Lemony sourness lingers a bit as well, and an unexpected cherry wine effect rises up very late in the finish, during swallowing, especially after the sediment has been added. Bone dry, very earthy and tannic, but also still very fruity finish, this is a somewhat demanding 'kriek' indeed, probably only just a little bit less intense as it was when fresh; I still refuse to understand why the word 'saison' needs to be connected to sour ales like this, this is a modern 'international' style farmhouse sour with a certain Belgian influence for sure, but not a true saison to me. Either way, pleasant enough to drink, but only if you like sour fruit beers, obviously. Could have been a bit more 'upholstered' and full-bodied, though, the base feels rather thin and it's the cherries and - very notably - the cherry pits that do most of the work here. Less surprising than the thyme version, but still an interesting Italian craft sour.

Pours a hazy, intense red colour, with the slightest hint of pinkish head, soon dissipating. Aroma of sour cherries, soft almond notes, a slight prickly 'sourishness' that shows citric/lemonish memories. Barnyard/funky notes very much in check, but slightly there. Overall nice though not too intense. Taste shows a light sweet base, quite strong (but not at all aggressive) acetic sourness, plus some citric sourness. Notes of cherries, almond, slight lemon, slight funk. Not too complex, but all very well integrated with a nice semi-sweet, semi-sour finish and aftertaste. Light to medium bodied with just the slightest hint of carbonation, in a silky smooth mouthfeel that feels really good. A very pleasant sour ale.

Tap at TCBW. Red colour, small pinky head. Farmhouse berryish aroma. Medium-bodied. Raspberry, tartness, a bit wineous flavour. Decent.
