There is so much fun involved in creating Dark Horizon. Once it ferments, everyone in the brewery are very enthusiastic and pay close attention. Is the yeast still active? Is everything OK? How does the flavours evolve? Dark Horizon is normally dark and velvety. Muscovado sugars provides good fruity aromas. The coffee is a chapter on its own. The green beans will first be treated alfa amylase, an enzyme brewers enjoy working with. Then we mash the green beans before drying and roasting them. From a 25 cl bottle shared at home. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of caramel and licorice. Flavors of brown sugar. Thick and oily mouthfeel. Moderate carbonation. Heavy alcohol finish.

Thx! to Kraddel. 25 cl. bottle sampled. Packaging is impecable. Pours lighter black with bordeaux hue, little head. Nose is very heavy, booze, syrup, molasses, almost vineous, brutal, soy, caramel, toffee, brutal. Taste is heavy on soy sauce, burned coffee, bitter roast, lots of coffee, booze, heavy roast, bitter roast, herbs, lots of bitter cold coffee, bitter, almost burning, herbs,... Totally flat. Nice but def. not on par with #3 & a bit too simple.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours very dark brown with tan bubbles. Aroma is sort of alcohol and treacle. With fruit and heat burn on the tongue. Develops some coffee. Finishes not quite dry and somewhat bitter. Flavors are strong, simple, yet hard to describe.

Bottle. Alcohol, anise, and dark fruit aroma. Black brown with a minimal head. Earthy fruity coffee, unsweetened cocoa, and dark fruit flavor. Medium body, flat carbonation, chalky finish. Just not impressed with this one.

Bottle. Cocoa, raisin malt, ash, and alcohol aroma. Black with minimal head. Sweet chocolate raisin, coffee, and moderately bitter herbal flavor. Coffee aftertaste. Pretty good.

Purple Paper wrapped inside a triangular box: Pours oily black with a dark tan ring. Slightly dusty coffee aroma...licorice. Roasty, dark fruit, chocolate, coffee... Deep, dark flavours. Vanilla, almost a little lactic feel. Very pleasant alcohol heat, incredibly easy drinking for 16%. Excellent.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s Pad, thanks originally to Ronny for an IP trade, 19/09/13. Pitch black with a moderately sized tan head that clears to a swirl. Nose is liqourice, good boozey waft, muscavado sugars, dark chocolate, lightly burnished toffee, mineral notes. Taste comprises dark roast malt, bitter dark chocolate, dark toffee, mineral bite, boozey twang, Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the finish. A little hot to trot but decent and drinkable enough for the ABV. And when you’ve done drinking the box makes for attractive Nogne head apparel!

Bottle from Dada, Sheffield. Looks like cold espresso in a glass. Had this 10 minutes out of a cold fridge. Aroma is orange cream chocolates. 10 minutes later, and that turns into sweetened, black coffee. Some Ribena blackcurrant too. A hint of vanilla yoghurt sourness. Lots going off! Taste is toffee apple sweet, then sour, then dry, although never to the tune of 100 IBU. Doesn’t feel 16% either. No where near, in fact. Big mouthfeel, but I can’t put it down.

The Last Tasting at Bruce’s palatial pad. Opaque dark black - brown beer. Good pale tan head. Palate is minerally crisp. Strong dark malt with a little bitterness. Bitter chocolate and rich coffee. Semi dry finish. Dark fruits in the aftertaste as well as more coffee.
