There is so much fun involved in creating Dark Horizon. Once it ferments, everyone in the brewery are very enthusiastic and pay close attention. Is the yeast still active? Is everything OK? How does the flavours evolve? Dark Horizon is normally dark and velvety. Muscovado sugars provides good fruity aromas. The coffee is a chapter on its own. The green beans will first be treated alfa amylase, an enzyme brewers enjoy working with. Then we mash the green beans before drying and roasting them. This gives it the unique flavor Dark Horizon deserves. Share Dark Horizon with someone you think deserves it.

Bottle at Bruce’s, big thanks Colin. It pours dark brown with a small tan head. The nose is rich roast, coconut, vanilla, wood, boozy chocolate and coffee. The taste is bitter-sweet, rich roast, earth, cocoa, dark fruit, spice, wood and coffee with a dry, roasty finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Slick, rich and surprisingly drinkable given the abv. Mighty decent.

25 cl bottle @ RIP camp. Batch 857/858: brewed 22.08.2012, BBE 22.08.2022
Aroma has soy sauce, salty licorice and alcohol. Also some herbal notes. Flavour is sweet with sugary notes, licorice, some coffee and licorice. Unfortunately this contains the sweetness DH3 has. Perhaps slightly more balanced but that doesn’t make difference that big.

250ml bottle from Den Nordiske Ølhandel, Copenhagen @ RIP Camp

Batch 857/858: brewed 22.08.2012, BBE 22.08.2022 - Pours pitch black with a tiny bubbly white head. Aroma of sweet syrup, roasty malts, vanilla, coffee, hints of chocolate and yeast. Taste is sweet, syrupy, sticky, boozy and chocolatey with hints of coffee and sugar. Finish is slick, sweet and syrupy with hints of dark chocolate, coffee and syrup. Unbalanced, a bit messy and too sweet, just like DH3.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - big thanks to Colin AND Kenny. Pours thick black with a frothy beige head. Heavy booze and chocolate in the nose. Big sweet flavor, torched wood, burnt toffee, dark sugars, gooey chocolate. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately warming finish, some bitter burnt wood, rich chocolate. Punchy stuff but does drink smoother than you might expect.

Bb 22-08-22, possibly 1 year old
Pitch black, with generous brown head, compact. It’s the usual good sipper; smooth; sweet without being syrupy or thick; strong, but controlling the alcohol perception, till the warming final; dynamic, with piquant hopping; the aroma is harmonious, with brown sugar, chocolate cup, vanilla, roasted malt, hint of coffee.
Excellent beer.

Tiny bottle. Pours a jet black hue with a medium brown head. A huge nose of heavily roasted coffee, dark fruit, metal. The flavor is great: huge dark fruit, syrup, cocoa, big heavy coffee, dark metallic roast, vanilla. Seems like oak fills in. The packaging is superb with a triangular box, purple wrapping paper and runes. Who doesn’t love runes. A sugary slick palate. Very expensive. Bottle from Belmont Station.
