This one has all-the-hops. Mandatory Fun is a throw back all the way to the early part of this decade, when IPAs were hoppy and beer drinkers both rejoiced and marveled at the brewer’s ability to get so much flavor from those little green buds. Dry and delicious, and yet big and bold. This is a double IPA not afraid of a good time. It’s Mandatory Fun.

Sampled from the tap at the Ocean Beach location. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of pine and slightly bitter citrus with a bit of sweet grain underlying. Flavor has a combination of onion and pine with a bit of citrus in the finish.

Hazy, pale, thin head. Fruity hop, a bit leafy, touch of apricot. Body is light and there’s a hit of alcohol in the finish.

Honey gold pour. Brief beige head. Citrus malt aroma. Bittersweet citrus flavor. Notes of grapefruit and lemon. Sticky mouthfeel. Spicy and dank on backend. Solid.

Can. Amber beer with a cream head. tropical fruit and grapefruit aroma. Tropical fruit and grapefruit flavor with orange and pine. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. tropical fruit and grapefruit linger with orange and pine.

32oz crowler pours with a near clear copper body that supports a lasting tight off white head of foam. The aroma offers up tangerine, tangelo, clementine and then a bit of guava and mango. The taste delivers bitter grapefruit and citrus peel hoppiness as well as thin tangy tangerine, guava and mango juiciness. Solid brew.
