Blond color; big head; nice perlage. The aroma is a bit flowery; light old hops. Medium dry; some maltiness; simple but pleasant to drink.

Orange-golden; collapsing, dense, very white head, leaving lace. Very alcoholic nose - even jenever-like - rather surprising at 6%ABV; cookies and roasted flakes. Scorched sugar/caramel taste, on the verge of bitterness. Rapidly diminishes to a more conventional sweet malt taste. Mouthfeel is amongst its best traits; fresh sparkling water-texture gives a good fight to the scorched caramel. Kastaar is a recreation of a beer, softly killed-off in the eighties-nineties. Now it’s around again, and the brewery seems hesitating between the traditional homely "Kastaar" and the very ’trendy’ name "K-star". I would be the happiest of people if they did the same for the much regretted Special 6-gueuze. Kastaar is OK, but not really in the star-category.

Bottled (1995 version sampled in November 2002).
Dark amber. Acidic toffee aroma, with a hint of spices. Velvetty mouthfeel leading to a finish with lkow bitterness. Rather one-dimensional, and probably not made perfect justice by letting it sit in a cellar for 7 years.
